The forecast calls for lots of turnover on the weather desk at WTMJ-TV (Channel 4).
Milwaukee’s NBC affiliate announced June 26 that Brendan Johnson, who joined Channel 4 as weekend morning meteorologist in 2022, has been promoted to doing the weather on the station’s weekday morning newscasts — a gig The Chicago native has had as a fill-in for long stretches of his time at Channel 4.
He’ll start his new role July 21.
Johnson is taking the roster spot currently occupied by Tyler Moore, who Channel 4 said is leaving the station in July. Moore, a Brookfield Central High School alum, joined Channel 4 in 2023 as weekday morning meteorologist.
In its announcement, the station also said that meteorologist Kristen Kirchhaine, who joined the station in 2020, had announced she is leaving Channel 4 “to move closer to home.” Kirchhaine grew up in western Michigan.
Turnover in TV meteorologist positions has been heavy across the industry, and the Milwaukee market is no exception. But the departures of Kirchhaine and Moore will leave Channel 4 with just Johnson and chief meteorologist Brian Niznansky.
