Texas Police games being held in Corpus Christi

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Hundreds of police officers from all over the state are competing in the Texas Police Games right here in Corpus Christi.

Hosted by the Corpus Christi Police Department, the games started yesterday, and officers will be vying for victory throughout the week. Competitions include powerlifting, bodybuilding, basketball, and the motorcycle skills competition, which officers are calling their own “motorcycle rodeo”.

Officers from several cities, including Austin, attended to show off their skills whilst also perfecting them, learning new tricks and techniques to take back to the communities they police.

CCPD Lt. Michael Pena said the competition helps elevate officers as they compete against one another.

“It helps them hone their skills,” Pena said. “Having to maneuver around traffic, having to come to a complete stop. It just hones those skills in their day-to-day work.”

CCPD is not taking part in the competition this year, but they are playing a part in judging and maintenance of the course itself.
