P150-M flood control project seen to reduce threats in Naga City

LEGAZPI CITY – Vulnerable barangays in Naga City can now expect better protection from floods with the completion of a PHP150-million flood mitigation structure by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in the Bicol Region.

Raymond Arevalo, chairman of Barangay Triangulo, on Thursday expressed his gratitude, on behalf of his constituents, for the implementation of the disaster-resilient project that stretches 1,075.6 linear meters and specifically designed to address the long-standing flooding issues caused by the creek running through Barangays Triangulo and Tabuco.

“This is a significant development for us. It will greatly help manage the flow of floodwater. We no longer have to worry about our belongings getting soaked every time there’s heavy rain or extended periods of rainfall. We thank the DPWH for managing this project. Thank you, and may God bless you,” he said in Filipino.

DPWH Bicol Director Virgilio Eduarte earlier said that with this new structure, the area’s susceptibility to flooding will be significantly reduced, enhancing public safety and safeguarding property.

The project was funded under the CY-2025 General Appropriations Act (GAA), underscoring its role in improving disaster preparedness in Naga City and aligning with DPWH’s infrastructure development goals through the Bagong Pilipinas program.

The DPWH-5 said the completed infrastructure is designed to handle a specific volume of water during heavy rainfall, which will not only protect residents’ homes and valuables but also support the ongoing development of the community by ensuring that the area remains safe and resilient. (PNA)
