Janet Jackson remains an icon — and this upcoming honor solidifies it.
On Tuesday, May 13, CBS and Dick Clark Productions announced that the five-time Grammy winner will receive the ICON Award at the 2025 American Music Awards later this month, calling her “one of the most influential entertainers of the modern era.”
“Thank you so much, AMAs!! ♥️ It’s an honor. We look forward to being on your stage again. See you in Vegas! 😘,” Jackson, 58, wrote on Instagram.
The prestigious honor goes to a musician “whose music has had undeniable cultural and global influence over the music industry.” Past ICON Award winners include Rihanna in 2013 and Lionel Richie in 2022.
Jackson, who is also an 11-time American Music Award-winner, will also take the stage at the Las Vegas awards show on Monday, May 26. This marks her first live performance on television since 2018.

Amid her 2025 AMA performance, Jackson will also be back at Resorts World for her Las Vegas residency, JANET JACKSON: LAS VEGAS for six shows from May 21 through May 31.
For the awards show’s 50th iteration, Jennifer Lopez is returning to serve as the master of ceremonies after previously hosting in 2025. “We are thrilled to welcome Jennifer Lopez back to host the American Music Awards,” CEO, Dick Clark Productions Jay Penske said in a statement in April.
“Jennifer’s incredible talent and incomparable stage presence make her the ideal host of the show. We know she will bring her one-of-a-kind energy to the official kick off celebration of summer.”
Lopez, 55, will also perform at the awards show. More performers, in addition to Jackson and the “Let’s Get Loud” singer, will be announced at a future date.
Kendrick Lamar leads the 2025 AMA nominations with 10 nods. Other celebrities recognized with several nominations include Post Malone with eight, and Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan and Shaboozey all received seven.
