Consumers Energy Offers Appliance Recycling Rebates

Consumers Energy is offering Michigan electric customers incentives to recycle old, working appliances through April 30, 2025. Participants can receive a $70 rebate for each qualifying refrigerator or freezer, an increase from the standard $50. Additionally, a $15 rebate is available for room air conditioners and dehumidifiers. The company provides free pickup services, allowing customers to schedule appliance removal online or by phone. To qualify, refrigerators and freezers must be in working condition and measure between 10 and 30 cubic feet. Each household can recycle up to two units per year.

Older refrigerators can consume up to three times more energy than newer models, potentially adding $150 annually to energy bills. Since the program’s inception in 2009, over 330,000 large appliances have been recycled. Recycled appliances are processed responsibly, with materials like foam, glass, and metal repurposed. Customers interested in participating can find more information and schedule pickups at www.ConsumersEnergy.com/recycle.
