European sales of Tesla vehicles plunged in April, as the U.S. electric car maker continues to face reputational damage regionally and rising competition.
Tesla sold 7,261 cars in Europe in April, down 49% year on year, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association, or ACEA. That drop came even as overall battery electric car sales rose 34.1% annually in April.
Tesla’s brand value and reputation have declined since 2024 due largely to CEO Elon Musk’s incendiary rhetoric and political activities.
In Germany, Musk formally endorsed the far-right AfD party ahead of the country’s parliamentary election earlier this year. Tesla has also clashed with Scandinavian labor groups.
In the U.S., Musk spent nearly $300 million to re-elect U.S. President Donald Trump, and has led an initiative for the Trump administration to slash federal agencies. In response, protests erupted at Tesla dealerships across Europe.
Tesla sales tanked nearly 40% year on year over the January-April period.
The company launched an upgraded version of its Model Y sport utility vehicle this year, but its overall lineup of cars is still ageing, with no new mass-market offering unveiled to date.
At the same time, Tesla continues to battle rising competition from traditional automakers as well as aggressive Chinese players. Last week, separate data showed auto giant BYD sold more pure electric cars in Europe than Tesla for the first time.
European consumers are also showing a preference for hybrid electric vehicles — cars with a small battery that still mainly run on traditional fuel. Hybrid electric vehicles account for just over 35% of the total European car market, ACEA data showed.
Tesla does not have any hybrid electric cars on the market, only selling full battery-powered vehicles.
Investors have questioned Musk’s dedication to Tesla because of his time advising Trump and his role leading the so-called Department of Government Efficiency. Musk said on the most recent Tesla earnings call that his time spent running DOGE would drop significantly by the end of May, but that he plans to dedicate a “day or two per week” to government work.
The tech billionaire added in a recent public speech that he is committed to leading Tesla for the next five years.

Park City’s 2024-25 ski season’s preliminary numbers are showing a winter of economic success.
Despite a dip in snowfall this year, the ski town had its highest revenue ever based on transient room tax, a value combining room rate and occupancy levels, according to Dan Howard, vice president of communications at the Park City Chamber.
“The two seasons before this one had exceptionally high snowfall levels that resulted in the top two skier day numbers in history,” said Howard. “Last year was the highest collection in Park City history until this year’s collection. So in brief summary, the past three years have seen exceptional economic performance in the tourism sector in Park City during the winter season.”
The Rocky Mountain region — Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming, Montana and Idaho again led the nation in skier visits, accounting for 42.9% of the national total. Despite snow totals falling below the 10-year average, the region still recorded its third-strongest season on record, according to the National Ski Areas Association. Nationwide, ski areas logged 61.5 million skier visits, making 2024-25 the second-highest season on record, trailing only the 2022-23 post-COVID surge.
Preliminary numbers from Vail Resorts show a 3.1% decrease in total skier visits in season to date totals as of April 20 across the company’s 37 North American resorts, including Park City Mountain. Though passholder visitation improved from the second quarter as expected in March and April, lift ticket visitation fell short of expectations.
“Although visitation declined, lift revenue increased compared to the prior year period, driven by the growth in season pass revenue committed ahead of the season,” said Kirsten Lynch, CEO of Vail Resorts. “As a result of the lower than expected lift ticket visitation in the spring period, the company currently expects resort reported EBITDA for fiscal 2025 to be in the lower half of the guidance range issued on March 10, 2025.”
EBITDA is a short-hand for business performance that means earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization.
With this season’s regional and national success, the National Ski Areas Association has declared a new standard for industry operations.
“The 2024-25 season may come to represent a new baseline for the industry. Even if ‘normal’ continues to evolve, this season gives us a strong point of reference for what steady, healthy growth looks like,” said Michael Reitzell, president and CEO of the association. “While weather will always be unpredictable, this year was less volatile overall, and nearly every region saw solid snowfall.”
With regional numbers reflecting a continued public interest and growth in industry success, Ski Utah expects state-specific values of skier visitation to be well aligned and demonstrative of regional trends.
“These numbers reflect a healthy and thriving ski industry, and we’re happy to play a role in continuing to grow snowsports in Utah. Especially with 2034 quickly approaching, skiing and snowboarding continue to remain pivotal to Utah’s economy and values,” said Alison Palmintere, director of communications at Ski Utah.
Looking ahead, following national and international economic conditions, the Park City Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau expects the town’s three-year streak of record highs and tourism success to flatten out, said Howard.
“Park City is budgeting a flat year versus this one, which would still be an exceptional result — but it would not represent a continued growth trend which we have seen for the last three years,” said Howard.
Barclays is moving to the sidelines on CoreWeave after the stock’s massive rally since going public. The firm downgraded CoreWeave to equal weight from overweight on Monday. It did raise its price target to $100 per share from $70, but that implies upside of just 3%. CoreWeave has been on a tear since its initial public offering on March 28 . In that time, the stock has surged 156.9%. The company priced its IPO at $40 per share. In May alone, shares have soared 148%. Analyst Raimo Lenschow said he’s optimistic on the stock long term, but added that the short-term upside is limited. CRWV YTD mountain CoreWeave stock in 2025. “At current levels, CoreWeave is trading at a 41x EV/EBIT CY26 multiple (assuming ~$31.4bn in gross debt in CY26), and while we expect growth to remain strong, we are not sure there are fundamental arguments to push this much higher, with the company trading at a healthy premium already to the rest of the space,” Lenschow said. “We continue to like CRWV for its long-term opportunity and exposure to the GenAI theme, but given valuation and lacking a near-term catalyst, see limited upside in the near-term from here.” The AI cloud computing company’s IPO was the largest in the tech sector since 2021. The firm is backed by AI darling Nvidia and rents out access to the chipmaker’s graphics processing units to peer technology companies. “It is important not to undersell CoreWeave as one of the first pure-play GenAI stories in software,” Lenschow said. “The company addresses a large TAM across both training and inference workloads, and we continue to see a strong growth opportunity for the business in the near- and medium-term, with the 420% y/y revenue growth in Q1 evidence of healthy momentum.” Several Wall Street shops last month issued bullish ratings on the stock last month , after a blackout period ended. JPMorgan, Bank of America and Barclays were among those who initiated coverage with a buy-equivalent rating. However, Barclays is now the first firm on the Street to downgrade the stock.

Prediction

A Glam Rock Glow-Up
Inspired by the colorful glam rock vibes of the 1970s, the Rocket Mask comes packaged in a rainbow-hued pouch that’s as bold as the mission it supports. Founder Sylwia Wiesenberg envisioned the design as “a dynamic love for color, stars, and music, with a dreamy, almost hallucinating effect.”
“It is a dream come true to work with the Elton John AIDS Foundation,” Wiesenberg said. “Growing up watching MTV, Sir Elton John was my childhood idol. This collaboration is a perfect synergy—both BAWDY and EJAF are about freedom, fun, and fierce self-expression.”
Supporting a Legendary Cause
Founded in 1992 by Sir Elton John, the Elton John AIDS Foundation is one of the leading independent AIDS organizations in the world. Consumer optimism got a much-needed boost in May on hopes for trade peace between the U.S. and China, according to a survey Tuesday.
The Conference Board’s Consumer Confidence Index leaped to 98.0, a 12.3-point increase from April and much better than the Dow Jones consensus estimate for 86.0.
Much of the positive sentiment, according to board officials, came from developments in the U.S.-China trade impasse, most notably President Donald Trump’s halting of the most severe tariffs on May 12.
“The rebound was already visible before the May 12 US-China trade deal but gained momentum afterwards,” said Stephanie Guichard, the Conference Board’s senior economist for global indicators.
May’s rebound followed five straight months of declines. Consumers and investors had grown sour on economic prospects amid the intensifying trade war that Trump has launched against U.S. global trading partners, with China a particular target.
However, the two sides reached a truce in early May, marking the second major walk-back of Trump’s so-called reciprocal tariffs since he levied them in his April 2 “liberation day” announcement.
Other board sentiment indicators also increased.
The present situation index increased to 135.9, up 4.8 points, and the expectations index posted a major surge to 72.8, a 17.4-point gain. Investors also showed more optimism, with 44% now expecting stocks to be higher over the next 12 months, up 6.4 percentage points from April.
Views on the labor market also improved, with 19.2% of respondents expecting more jobs to be available in the next six months, compared with 13.9% in April. At the same time, 26.6% expect fewer jobs, down from 32.4%. However, the level of respondents saying jobs were “plentiful” edged higher to just 31.8%, while those saying employment was “hard to get” increased to 18.6%, up 1.1 percentage points.
Survey officials said sentiment improved across age, income and political affiliation, though noting that the “strongest improvements” came from Republicans.
