Blue Bloods’ Boston Blue spinoff will replace Tom Selleck with major star

0

CBS’ Blue Bloods spin-off Boston Blue has found its Reverend Peters, who will be played by a Hollywood star who has appeared in the likes of Ghostbusters and Miss Congeniality, with whether Tom Selleck will appear on the show still unknown

Boston Blue, the much-anticipated spin-off of Blue Bloods, has revealed its new Frank Reagan, with the show set to premiere in late 2025.

Tom Selleck, who played the pivotal role of Reagan family patriarch Frank Reagan in CBS’ Blue Bloods, has not yet confirmed whether he’ll be making an appearance in Boston Blue.

The spin-off will see Danny Reagan (played by Donnie Wahlberg) joining the Boston PD and partnering with Detective Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green), another member of a prestigious police family. Leading this family is Reverend Peters, described as “a renowned pastor of a historic Baptist church in Boston”, who is an “open-minded, welcoming man that is comfortable in all traditions”.

The actor stepping into the shoes of Reverend Peters has now been revealed – it’s none other than film veteran Ernie Hudson.

Hudson is best known for his roles as Winston Zeddemore in the Ghostbusters series and McDonald in Sandra Bullock’s Miss Congeniality.

His other notable performances include LA’s Finest, Quantum Leap, The Family Business, The Crow, and The Basketball Diaries.

Just like Magnum PI star Tom Selleck’s fatherly portrayal of Frank Reagan, Hudson’s character of the pastor is expected to fill a similar role in Boston Blue, following the cancellation of Blue Bloods after 14 seasons, reports the Mirror.

CBS has revealed details on the Silver family tree for their upcoming show, revealing that Reverend Peters is the patriarch, father to Boston’s District Attorney Mae Silver, and grandfather to Superintendent Ashley Silver, rookie cop Isaac Silver, and Detective Lena Silver.

So far, aside from Reverend Peters, the only Silver family member who has been cast is “The Walking Dead” star Sonequa Martin-Green, who will step into the shoes of Lena.

While there’s no official release date for “Boston Blue” just yet, it’s anticipated to hit screens in fall 2025.

When it does, the spin-off will snag the Friday 10pm slot currently held by “Blue Bloods.”

Yankees never showed serious interest

0

LOS ANGELES — A trade chip last summer and a free agent over the offseason, reports and speculation repeatedly pegged the Yankees as suitors for Tanner Scott. However, the club didn’t show serious interest in the Dodgers’ closer over the winter, as Scott told the Daily News that the Yankees never met with or spoke to him.

“I heard at the beginning they were interested,” the lefty said. “And then after the Devin Williams trade, I figured I probably wasn’t going to hear from them.”

Scott was referring to the Yankees’ December deal with the Brewers that sent Williams to New York and Nestor Cortes and Caleb Durbin to Milwaukee. Scott, meanwhile, agreed to a four-year, $72 million deal with Los Angeles in mid-January.

Williams, a two-time National League Reliever of the Year and impending free agent earning $8.6 million this season, made for a cheaper option with a lengthier, more decorated track record. He actually expected the Brewers to trade him to the Dodgers.

“I kind of thought I’d be going to L.A. That’s what I was being told,” Williams said during an introductory Zoom in December. “The Yankees snuck in there under the table and got the deal done.”

Perhaps the Dodgers would have dealt for Williams and the Yankees would have made a stronger run at Scott in an alternate universe. While the Bombers have typically avoided big-money contracts for relievers, pitching coach Matt Blake said they had preliminary interest in Scott.

“I don’t know to what extent we were going to go to get him,” Blake said. “I don’t know where he fit amongst the other collection of guys we were talking about in the budget, but obviously, anyone with that level of talent in the free agent market, you’re going to be interested.”

Scott entered free agency as a first-time All-Star, recording a 1.75 ERA and 22 saves over 72 games with the Marlins and Padres last season. He has 10 saves and a 4.56 ERA with the Dodgers so far.

With two men on, Scott recorded one out in the eighth inning of the Dodgers’ 8-5 win over the Yankees on Friday. He had been struggling prior to the series, allowing nine earned runs and blowing three saves over his last five games.

Williams, meanwhile, endured his own hardships with his new team earlier this season, recording an 11.25 ERA over his first 10 games as a Yankee. That stretch resulted in his removal from the closer’s role, which Luke Weaver has since thrived in.

Williams has been far more effective since the demotion, not allowing any earned runs in 12 of his last 14 games. However, he received his first opportunity to close in a month earlier this week in Anaheim; he surrendered two runs before narrowly notching a save.

On Saturday, Williams got some work in during an 18-2 loss, working out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam by way of a double play. He now has a 6.53 ERA this season.

When Liam Payne passed away on October 16 of last year, he left behind a $32 million fortune.

Of course, because he was just 31 years old at the time of his passing, Liam also did not have a will prepared.

And now, the fate of the late One Direction singer’s fortune has been revealed.

Colson, Cunningham exit Fever loss to Sun with injuries

0

The Indiana Fever fell to 0-2 without injured star Caitlin Clark on Friday night and watched two more guards get hurt.

Clark’s backup, veteran Sydney Colson, and Sophie Cunningham both left because of injuries during the Fever’s 85-83 loss to the Connecticut Sun, who won their first game after an 0-5 start.

Colson suffered a left leg injury in the first quarter at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. In the fourth quarter, Cunningham, who had taken over much of the point guard duties, appeared to aggravate a right ankle injury that kept her out of Indiana’s first two games of the season.

Neither player returned against the Sun, and Fever coach Stephanie White didn’t have an update on their statuses after the game.

“It was kind of like a gut punch,” White said. “It affected us in the second quarter, no doubt, not having another primary ball handler, and we [have to] take Sophie out of what she does naturally really well when she has to become a ball handler.

“But the reality is this stuff happens. We’ve seen it time and time again in our league. We can’t take 2½ quarters to figure it out. But I was proud of our fight in the fourth quarter after Sophie went down.”

Cunningham had a season-high 10 points before exiting.

The Fever lost to the Washington Mystics 83-77 in Baltimore on Wednesday, two days after they announced that Clark, the reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year, would be out at least two weeks because of a left quad strain.

Against the Sun, the Fever rallied from 15 points down to take the lead twice in the final 3½ minutes and had the ball with a chance to tie or win with 5.1 seconds left. But Kelsey Mitchell missed an off-balance jumper, sending the Fever to their fourth loss this season — by margins of 1, 2, 6 and 2 points.

Aliyah Boston led the Fever with 17 points, 8 assists and 5 rebounds. Marina Mabrey had 26 points to pace Connecticut, which had to replace its entire starting lineup this season after trades and free agency had a big impact on personnel.

It was the first win for new Sun coach Rachid Meziane, who replaced White after she left for Indiana. It also was the franchise’s 500th regular-season win, counting its start in Orlando before it moved to Connecticut in 2003.

Indiana started the season with 11 players but finished Friday’s game with just eight. If Colson and Cunningham can’t play Tuesday against visiting Washington, Indiana would be eligible to sign players to a seven-day contract as temporary replacements.

“It’s hard when you keep losing people and you’ve got to keep trying to piece it together,” said Fever forward DeWanna Bonner, who finished with 13 points. “We came in with one game plan, and then you lose your other point guard and you’ve got to pivot on the fly. And we’re a new team at that; we’ve got all these new pieces. We just have to stay together and stay positive. Get through the storm.”

Matt Damon, Ben Affleck were ‘flabbergasted’ after meeting Jordon Hudson, insider says

0

It turns out that viewers weren’t the only ones confused by Jordon Hudson’s presence in a Dunkin’ Super Bowl commercial alongside Bill Belichick. A couple of her famous co-stars were as well.

In a recent discussion with Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, journalist Pablo Torre shed some light on what he described as bizarre negotiations to make the DunKings commercial happen. Torre reports that Hudson was acting as Belichick’s agent. Torre, the host of “Pablo Torre Finds Out,” has been notably plugged in with the Belichick-Hudson relationship.

“She was negotiating directly with Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, who were, I am told very reliably, flabbergasted that this was who they had to go through to get to the guy that they revered for decades as the greatest coach of all time,” Torre said.

Affleck and Damon both grew up in Massachusetts and have been vocal about their New England sports fandom. They’re plenty familiar with the former Patriots coach, who was famously media savvy in terms of keeping his life private.

That’s why it’s been especially jarring to see Belichick and Hudson so open about their public and professional relationship with his girlfriend (and rumored fiancée).

Torre described Hudson as “kind of Bill Belichick’s ‘momager,” a mom/manager akin to Kris Jenner figure, the architect behind the Kardashian-Jenner media empire.

Torre noted that Affleck and Damon were thrown off by Hudson’s role in negotiations, but pushed on to secure Belichick’s spot in the commercial.

However, the North Carolina coach didn’t come alone. Hudson reportedly “forced” her way into an on-screen role in the Super Bowl ad.

Hudson’s appearance on TV screens in the Super Bowl was one of many catalysts that vaulted her into the national conversation as one half of the most talked-about relationship in football.

Andrew McCutchen Ties Roberto Clemente on Pittsburgh Pirates Home Run List

0

Pittsburgh Pirates veteran Andrew McCutchen made history Sunday evening, hitting his 240th career home run as a Pirate to tie the legendary Roberto Clemente for third place on the franchise’s all-time home run list.

The milestone blast came in the top of the third inning against San Diego Padres starting pitcher Randy Vásquez. On an 81 mph curveball, McCutchen drove the ball 365 feet into the left-field seats at Petco Park with an exit velocity of 104.7 mph. The two-run homer, his fifth of the season, also scored Oneil Cruz and gave the Pirates a 2-1 lead.

A five-time All-Star, four-time Silver Slugger and the 2013 NL MVP, McCutchen spent his first nine MLB seasons (2009-2017) with the Pirates, leading them to three consecutive playoff appearances (2013-2015). After playing for the Giants, Yankees, Phillies, and Brewers, he returned to Pittsburgh in 2023, reigniting his connection with the fanbase while climbing the team’s record books.

The man McCutchen now joins, Roberto Clemente, remains one of baseball’s most revered figures.

A 15-time All-Star, two-time World Series champion, and 1966 NL MVP, Clemente spent his entire 18-year career (1955-1972) with the Pirates, collecting 3,000 hits and becoming a symbol of excellence and humanitarianism. His life was tragically cut short in a 1972 plane crash while delivering aid to earthquake victims in Nicaragua.

Pirates’ All-Time Home Run Leaders

  1. Willie Stargell – 475 HR (1962-1982)
  2. Ralph Kiner – 301 HR (1946-1953)
  3. Roberto Clemente – 240 HR (1955-1972) & Andrew McCutchen – 240 HR (2009-2017, 2023-present)

McCutchen will probably not play long enough to reach Ralph Kiner’s 301 homers, and Willie Stargell’s franchise record (475) remains a distant benchmark.

However, McCutchen’s home run on Sunday was a reminder of how long he has been a consistent, impactful bat in the Pittsburgh Pirates lineup.

Yet this one had a clear message to the all the haters, whether it’d be in the direction of her man KAT or all the Pacers fans, probably most notably ESPN personality Pat McAfee, who virally called out famous NYC fans Spike Lee, Ben Stiller, and Timothée Chalamet in Indy for Game 4, “Let’s send these son of a b***hes back to New York with their ears burning.”

(Fellow Pacers famous fan, legendary rocker John Mellencamp, was embarrassed by McAfee’s actions, saying he betrayed “Hoosier Hospitality.”)

While the amazing custom KAT white corset top will get most of the attention, it was the hoodie sweatshirt that did the talking with the words, “New York vs. Everybody.”

New York Knicks Keys Revealed Ahead of Game 5 vs. Indiana Pacers

0

The New York Knicks face a crucial Game 5 tonight at Madison Square Garden, and they know that it is do-or-die if they want to keep their season alive.

Their loss in Game 4 to the Indiana Pacers was frustrating, but they know what they need to do in order to end up on the winning side of tonight’s matchup.

“In true fashion to our whole playoff run, we put ourselves in a deficit, we dug ourselves out of the deficit and usually we feel good about us going into a close game in the fourth quarter, showing that resilience,” Knicks star Karl-Anthony Towns said via The Athletic insider James Edwards III.

“I’ve said it to y’all multiple times that you’re going to get burned when you put yourselves in that position too many times and tonight is one of those nights where we got burned.”

The Knicks don’t attack at the beginning of games, and that has caused them to fall behind a lot. The goal for the Knicks should be to start off hot, and they have made changes to the starting lineup to try and prevent these things from happening.

The Knicks also know they need to try and prevent turnovers.

“It’s tough to win against a team like that, a team that turns those turnovers into points,” Knicks forward Josh Hart said.

“I had four or five bad, stupid turnovers that led to easy baskets. We have to be more careful with the ball, starting with myself.”

Getting out to a hot start and taking care of the ball will be key for the Knicks if they want to win Game 5. If they don’t end up executing on those points, they will be flying to Cancun instead of Indianapolis.

Sarah Silverman & Matt Damon ‘Affair’ Video Resurfaces Following Podcast Comments

0

Sarah Silverman has revisited her viral “I’m F*****g Matt Damon” video and revealed new behind-the-scenes details about how she kept it a secret from then-boyfriend Jimmy Kimmel. Her comments, made during a recent podcast appearance, have reignited interest in the infamous clip, which helped launch one of the internet’s first viral comedy moments and fueled Kimmel’s long-running fake feud with Damon.

Why is Sarah Silverman and Matt Damon’s video trending?

The 2008 viral video “I’m F*****g Matt Damon” is trending again after Sarah Silverman reflected on its creation during a recent podcast appearance.

Promoting her new Netflix special PostMortem, Silverman appeared on Where Everybody Knows Your Name and revealed she had to lie to then-boyfriend Jimmy Kimmel to keep the video a surprise. The clip, which aired on Jimmy Kimmel Live as a birthday prank, became one of YouTube’s earliest viral hits.

Silverman said the idea came from Jimmy Kimmel Live! writers Tony Barbieri and Sal Iacono, Kimmel’s cousin. While touring in Miami, where Matt Damon lived, she arranged to film the segment.

Silverman recalled, “We wrote the song, like, in a fury,” and recorded it in a hotel studio. Damon joined the shoot for just three hours before leaving for his daughter’s Halloween pageant. The entire video was shot across four locations in a rushed but well-coordinated session.

The gag worked as a surprise for Kimmel, who saw the video live on his show. Silverman said, “I think he acted mad because he felt like he needed to, but he loved it.” She remembered telling him to keep expectations low before the reveal. The video’s success led to attempts to replicate its virality, but Silverman noted, “That’s not something you can make.”

The feud it played on was a long-running joke between Kimmel and Damon. Kimmel ended many shows with, “Apologies to Matt Damon, we ran out of time.” When Damon began engaging with the joke, the nightly bit turned into an elaborate back-and-forth. Kimmel later released his own parody, “I’m F—ing Ben Affleck,” featuring celebrities like Brad Pitt and Robin Williams, making it another viral sensation.
