San Francisco’s Pink Triangle returns for Pride Month

0

As San Francisco prepares for Pride Week, an enduring symbol of that celebration appeared Saturday morning on the hills above the city.

The Pink Triangle is an annual tradition, but this year, hundreds of people arrived for the installation as a show of defiance to the federal government’s targeting of the gay and transgender community.

For 30 years, the Pink Triangle has towered over the city during Pride Month. But founder Patrick Carney said it began almost on a whim.

“The first one went up in the dark of night and we thought it was just sort of a fluke to add a little color to the parade,” he said.  “And then we realized that people didn’t know what it was, so that’s why it’s here after 30 years.”

The deeper meaning of the symbol is not a cause for celebration. The pink triangle was the insignia given by the Nazi’s to suspected homosexuals as they were shipped to concentration camps for extermination.

“With the Pink Triangle, we’re just trying to remember what happened and how it ties into Pride,” said Carney. “Because part of celebrating and appreciating any Pride is knowing where you’ve been. And this is it, this Pink Triangle. So, we have to have it here for Pride. Especially with what’s happening in Washington.  It really is more important than ever this year.”

With the Trump administration targeting transgender individuals and challenging previously established same-sex rights, participation in the installation of the triangle reached an all-time high. More than 800 people showed up in the cold, foggy morning to hammer down the sections of pink canvas making up the one-acre symbol.

“And it shows that we still need it. That many people wouldn’t show up if this project wasn’t needed,” said Carney. “They wanted to come up to help build it to make sure it was a part of Pride Month.”

After the installation was complete, local leaders spoke about this year’s Pride celebration being about a lot more than just a fight for LGBTQ rights.

“We are going to be at the vanguard, fighting to save this American republic,” said SF Board of Supervisors president, Rafael Mandelman. “And that’s what Pride is about this year…and probably will be, as least for the next three.”

“When we look up here from any point in San Francisco, and we see this triangle, it reminds us of what we stand for,” said CA Assemblymember Matt Haney.

Then he showed the crowd his cap from the Navy ship named for gay rights crusader Harvey Milk, a ship that has been ordered by the Secretary of Defense to be renamed.

“Erasing people is what they do,” said Haney.  “Celebrating people and history and identity is what we do.”

Carney has shepherded the Pink Triangle project through 30 years and its continued existence is reflected in his personality.

“Persistence, longevity, stubbornness, I’m still here,” he said, with a laugh. “And someday I’ll find a successor. But, no, we had no idea that it would still be going on. And it really is important, especially this year. It’s more important than ever after what’s happening in Washington, D.C.”

The Pink Triangle will remain on display until the end of Pride month, on Sunday, June 29. And while it will continue, its meaning has changed.  It began as a warning about man’s inhumanity towards those seen as “different.”  Now, it’s become a symbol of defiance to that very same thing.

Backstage News On Idea That El Grande Americano Could Cash In MITB For AAA Mega Title

0

Chad Gable may have lost his AAA Mega Championship opportunity to El Hijo del Vikingo at Worlds Collide earlier in the day on Saturday, but his Luchador alter ego El Grande Americano still has a chance at glory in the Money in the Bank ladder match. According to Fightful Select, some within WWE speculated that El Grande Americano would win the briefcase and cash in on the AAA title if Gable lost to Vikingo.

Fightful noted that while it was a funny concept, the angle was not planned as of this week. While Gable lost his qualifying opportunity to Penta in a match also involving Dragon Lee, his alter ego won his qualifier over AJ Styles and CM Punk on the June 2 edition of “WWE Raw.”

El Grande Americano is already a champion, as he currently holds the WWE Speed Championship, which he won from Lee on May 7. He also has a WrestleMania victory over Rey Fenix.

What If Chad Gable Wins WWE Worlds Collide & El Grande Americano Wins MITB?

0

Kayfabe is a beautiful thing. Despite the growing intrusion of social media commentary from fans and analysts alike, kayfabe continues to put the entertainment in sports entertainment and suspend our disbelief. The duality of Chad Gable and El Grande Americano presents a fascinating dilemma for both kayfabe guardians and the more modern, realist demographics. This weekend poses a historic and incredibly influential pair of PLEs. WWE Worlds Collide will be the first WWE and AAA collaborative PLE since WWE acquired the lucha libre promotion earlier this year.

Following that will be WWE’s Money in the Bank PLE. Both events will take place back-to-back in Los Angeles, but at different arenas.

Whatever side of the fence you sit on, most fans can agree that Chad Gable and El Grande Americano’s striking resemblances are not merely coincidental. Supposed Mexican wrestling legend El Grande is Gable disguised as a Luchador.

While he has done well so far to juggle the two characters and prevent El Grande from being unmasked, the schedule for Worlds Collide and Money in the Bank presents a potential banana peel for Master Gable. That being said, it’s also a fantastic opportunity for Gable to make history.

At Worlds Collide, Gable will face newly-crowned AAA Mega Champion El Hijo Del Vikingo for the title. A few hours later, El Grande will compete against five other superstars in a ladder match for the MITB contract. If Gable wins, he’ll make history as the first WWE superstar to capture an AAA title since the new partnership was confirmed.

Should El Grande win Money in the Bank, he’ll technically become the first Luchador to capture the briefcase. Furthermore, it provides myriad creative opportunities for Gable (and El Grande) moving forward. Assuming they both emerge victorious.

What if Chad Gable Wins the AAA Mega Championship?

Chad Gable is one of WWE’s best wrestlers to have not held a singles championship. A major title win would immediately elevate him to top-tier status. This would be beneficial for both WWE and AAA, as Gable would be expected to defend his title at both companies.

And with the hatred that Gable’s dual personas have created, especially from legitimate Luchadors, it could present some interesting matchups with Lucha stars from both WWE and AAA.

A Gable victory would also solidify the ‘worlds collide’ concept. It would show that both companies are willing to allow their titles to crossover. And this would, of course, mean that an AAA superstar could credibly win a WWE championship at some point. Not to mention, there would be the prospect of a long-term rivalry between Gable and Vikingo.

Both are exciting performers in their own right, making for a standout rivalry in 2025.

What if El Grande Americano Wins Money in the Bank?

Having a MITB briefcase holder with a secret identity would be a first for WWE. And knowing the hatred toward the El Grande persona from other superstars, it would add an extra layer to this year’s MITB narrative. It wouldn’t be just the champions looking over their shoulders. El Grande would also expect his cash-in attempts to be jeopardised.

As a supposedly Mexican-born Luchador, an El Grande Americano with the briefcase in tow could look to cash in at an AAA event. Assume for the moment that Gable has lost to Vikingo. Locked into a long-term rivalry, El Grande could conceivably cash in on Vikingo to exact revenge. Again, a historic first cross-promotional cash-in would be a great to emphasize the ‘worlds collide’ concept.

What if Gable Wins at Worlds Collide and El Grande Wins at Mitb?

It’s an outrageous concept, but one that’s entirely possible. And while fans won’t bet on that happening, WWE have structured the weekend’s events in a way to make it possible. So, as fans, we can’t rule it out. And it presents a multitude of opportunities for Gable, as well as underlining WWE’s faith in him.

A quick cash-in is also possible. WWE’s world champions face off in a tag-team match at MITB, meaning that one or both champions could be severely depleted come the end of that bout. If El Grande cashes in on an exhausted champion at MITB, Gable/El Grande could become a historic double world champion over one day.

However, if El Grande chooses to be patient with his cash-in, it will provide Gable with unprecedented power across WWE and AAA. A world champion with a MITB briefcase would be an incredible sight to behold. And for fans, working out when El Grande could cash in will provide an exhilarating theoretical minefield. Splitting his time between both companies, it’ll be more difficult than usual to figure out when he could cash in.

What Does This Mean for the Inevitable Reveal of Chad Gable?

The ruse of El Grande Americano will come to an end at some point. And the AAA Mega title or a MITB cash-in could be the catalyst for it. Sadly, it could be a double or triple whammy for Gable. There is the possibility that a rival’s forced unmasking could ruin El Grande’s cash-in. And with El Grande’s secret identity revealed, WWE creative could punish Gable by stripping him of his AAA title.

Whatever happens this weekend, a title win, a MITB win, or both, it’s going to elevate Gable. The storyline continues to intrigue fans, and there’s a brilliant opportunity here to take it to an unprecedented level.

Whether Gable’s identity is unveiled by force or on his terms, the reveal will be memorable. Should Gable opt to reveal himself after a successful cash-in as El Grande, it could lead to another persona shift.

Having angered WWE creative with his dual persona, his ego amplified by double champion status, Gable could repackage himself as an anti-establishment tweener above the power of WWE. It would be a fitting end, satisfying both kayfabe purists and the realists.

A conclusion rooted in fiction and reality that amplifies the immense qualities of the unsung Chad Gable.

Milan Records Releases Original Game Soundtrack for ‘Dune: Awakening.’ – Cinelinx

The original soundtrack for Dune: Awakening is now available to purchase.

Milan Records announces the release of the Original Game Soundtrack for Funcom’s Dune: Awakening, with music by award-winning composer, Knut Avenstroup Haugen.

“Composing the soundtrack for Dune: Awakening has been an epic journey—one that challenged and inspired me in equal measure,” says Haugen. “I wanted the score to reflect the depth and mystery of the lore, as well as the haunting majesty of Arrakis. The music is rich, colourful, and emotionally resonant. The orchestra—beautifully recorded at AIR Studios—along with synthesizers and a wide array of unique and amazing soloists and instruments, formed the fabric of a score full of contrasts: it’s both intimate and vast, dreamlike and raw. To contribute to the legacy of Dune in this way has been a true adventure—an experience I will always treasure.”

Developed by Funcom and inspired by Frank Herbert’s sci-fi masterpiece and Denis Villeneuve and Legendary Entertainment’s award-winning films, Dune: Awakening introduces a parallel Dune timeline where Paul Atreides was never born. Witness the world of Dune come to life unlike ever before in the Launch Trailer, premiered today at Summer Game Fest.

Experience a brand-new Dune story in the first-ever open world, multiplayer survival game set on Arrakis. Dune: Awakeningsets players free on the vast and deadly sands of Arrakis, the most dangerous planet in the Known Universe, and sole source of the spice. Explore a world ruled by sun, storm, and sandworm and rise from survival to greatness alongside hundreds of other players. Survival is only the beginning. Control the spice and seize control of the Landsraad to impact every player of your chosen faction, be it Atreides or Harkonnen.
