Tesla plans to temporarily pause manufacturing of Cybertruck, Model Ys: report

0

Elon Musk’s automotive company is temporarily pausing manufacturing starting June 30, according to a Business Insider report.

TRAVIS COUNTY, Texas — Elon Musk’s automotive company will reportedly halt manufacturing of certain vehicles for one week at the end of June into July.

Tesla will stop production on its Cybertruck and Model Y vehicles starting June 30 to allow for maintenance, according to Business Insider

During this time, workers at Travis County’s Tesla Gigafactory can participate in voluntary training and cleaning and/or use their paid time off.

This isn’t the first time Musk’s business has temporarily halted production. Tesla made a similar move last month, making this the second time in two months when operations were put on pause.

The company reported a Year-over-Year (YoY) decrease of 13% in its first quarter this year. Tesla’s total revenue dropped by 9% from the year before, and its automotive revenue reportedly dipped by 20%.

The decrease comes as Musk receives backlash for his efforts with the Trump administration, where he originally planned to cut $2 trillion in government spending through his work with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

This led to layoffs across various federal agencies, including the Department of the Interior, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Musk left his role with DOGE late last month, with plans to focus more on Tesla.

“Back to spending 24/7 at work and sleeping in conference/server/factory rooms,” he posted to X on May 24.

This month, Musk said he plans to bring autonomous vehicles to Austin, with a tentative launch date of June 22. In a video posted to X on June 10, one of Musk’s’ Model Y Robotaxi vehicles was reportedly seen driving itself on South Congress Avenue ahead of the launch.

Tesla Plans to Pause Cybertruck, Model Y Production July 4 Week

0

Tesla plans to pause production on Cybertruck and Model Y lines for a week at its Austin factory, Business Insider has learned. It would be at least the third such shutdown in a year.

In a meeting earlier this month with workers, the company said the shutdown would begin the week of June 30, and production would resume the following week, according to a person familiar with the matter. During the pause, employees can use paid time off or come in for voluntary training and cleaning.

The pause would enable the automaker to perform maintenance on production lines, the company told workers.

Tesla told staff the improvements would help ramp up production, according to the person. It didn’t specify which lines could see increased output.

In the lead up to the planned shutdown, the carmaker has also been preparing for a robotaxi launch in Austin. CEO Elon Musk has said the first rides will be offered in a Model Y. The company plans to launch with 10 to 20 of the vehicles, he said.

Tesla didn’t respond to a request for comment about the planned shutdown.

Tesla has paused production at the Austin facility at least twice over the past 12 months.

During a production pause on Cybertruck and Model Y lines in late May, the company held voluntary training that included seminars on improving the work culture at the factory.

Tesla also paused production of the Cybertruck for three days in December. At the time, workers said they were told it was because of a battery supply issue. In April, the automaker reduced production of the electric pickup truck and moved some workers off the line.

It’s common for some automakers to shut production lines down for weeks on end, especially during holiday periods or summer months, when auto sales typically slow down.

The production pauses allow companies to conduct routine maintenance and update lines; they can also give companies time to address inventory surpluses or parts shortages.

In the fall of 2024, Ford suspended production of its F-150 Lightning for seven weeks. During the semiconductor shortages in 2021, both Ford and GM paused production at some of their plants.

Until recently, these kinds of production pauses had been rare at Musk’s automaker, four workers told Business Insider.

Tesla is expected to release its second-quarter delivery numbers in July. During its first quarter, Tesla reported a 13% drop year-over-year. As of March 20, Tesla has delivered fewer than 50,000 Cybertrucks, according to a voluntary recall notice.

Tesla released a refreshed version of its Model Y, the company’s best-selling model, in January.

For now, all eyes are on the company’s coming robotaxi launch. Musk said on June 10 that the company “tentatively” planned to begin offering the self-driving service on June 22 in Austin.

“We are being super paranoid about safety, so the date could shift,” Musk said in a post on X.

By June 28, the vehicles would be able to drive themselves from the factory to a customer’s house, he added.

Brad Marchand proves crucial to Panthers’ Stanley Cup win

0

SUNRISE — Two years ago, Brad Marchand was in disbelief. How could his Boston Bruins, who had just completed the best regular season in NHL history, lose to the No. 8 seed Panthers in the first round of the playoffs?

One year ago, Marchand was up against those same Panthers, but he had to miss part of the series after taking a punch from Florida’s Sam Bennett.

On Tuesday, he was celebrating on the ice with his one-time Florida enemies as they clinched the franchise’s second straight Stanley Cup title.

‘”It’s incredible,” Marchand told ESPN after the Game 6 win. “It’s a feeling you can’t really describe. Seeing the family and everyone up there and everyone that supported me and helped me get to this point, words can’t put this into reality, how great it feels. Such an incredible group.”

Marchand was one of the best stories of the postseason. Injuries limited the veteran winger during the season, and he notched just 51 points — his lowest total in a decade. In March, the Bruins — the only NHL team he had ever played for — dealt him to the Panthers.

Any lingering ill feelings Marchand had with Florida players (or vice versa) were quickly buried.

“As soon as he got traded here, he chirped me in the group chat instantly for our history and the last playoffs,” Bennett said.

Marchand played in 10 regular-season games with his new team, scoring twice and notching two assists. In the playoffs, he came alive. Marchand led a dominant Florida third line, scoring four times — including a crucial overtime winner in Game 3 vs. Toronto — with 10 assists in the first three rounds.

In the Final, Marchand dominated. He had two two-goal games and scored the Game 2 winner in overtime. He finished second in the Final with six goals, trailing only teammate Sam Reinhart (who had four goals in Game 6).

Bennett, who won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoffs’ most valuable player, said Marchand could have won the award over him

“What he’s meant to this team, I truly don’t think we win a Stanley Cup without him,” Bennett said. “His leadership, his will to win, it’s inspiring. I was telling him before every game, ‘We’re going to follow you,’ and we did. He was a dog every night.”

Marchand, like his one-time nemesis in Bennett, has a choice ahead of him this offseason: Stay in Florida or head elsewhere via free agency. But Marchand has raved about his time in Sunrise, and Panthers general manager Bill Zito said they would try to bring Marchand back. Since the Panthers won on Tuesday night, Marchand has joined his teammates out and about in South Florida, celebrating the victory.

“We talked about it before the game — it’s such an incredible culture,” Marchand said. “Everyone that’s come in here, it felt like we’ve been here a lot longer than a few months. It’s a family. Guys love each other in this room. You buy into it immediately. They embrace you. It’s incredible.”

Marchand added: “We’ll see what happens here soon.”

Why Indiana Fever coach Stephanie White will not coach vs Valkyries

0

play

SAN FRANCISCO — The Indiana Fever announced head coach Stephanie White will miss Thursday’s game at the Golden State Valkyries for personal reasons, marking the second game she’d missed this season. Austin Kelly will serve as acting head coach.

Kelly previously filled in for White in the team’s 79-52 victory over the Chicago Sky at the United Center on June 7. White and ESPN/ABC broadcaster Lisa Salters are partners and both stepped away from their duties that weekend as Salters’ mother dealt with a health issue, according to the ABC broadcast of the NBA Finals. It’s not known if White is missing Thursday game for the same reason.

White returned to the team following the Fever’s win over Chicago, and has coached Indiana’s games against Atlanta, New York, and Connecticut since.

“Thanks. You know, I’m doing all right,” White said after she returned following the June 7 game. “It’s helpful that we have such a great group, pouring into me and helping give me strength. I’ve said it all along, we’ve got three head coaches on our staff. And so knowing that they continue to step up and do great things gives me comfort.

“You know, our family is working through a hard time right now. And no matter what, I’m gonna be where my feet are, but I’m really thankful for this group.”

White has a lot of trust in Kelly and her entire coaching staff, all of whom she’s known for over a decade. Kelly was a practice player on the Fever’s 2012 championship team, while fellow assistants Karima Christmas-Kelly and Briann January played on that team.

Kelly was on White’s staff at Vanderbilt, and she gave him his first job in the WNBA when he joined her staff in Connecticut in 2023. He, along with January, followed her to Indianapolis after she took the job with the Fever.

Ryan Murphy Blasts Critics of American Love Story Carolyn Bessette Pics

0

Ryan Murphy wants the Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy fashion fandom to know that he won’t disappoint them.

The television impresario faced fashionista backlash last week when he posted a first look of “American Love Story” stars Paul Kelly and Sarah Pidgeon in what appeared to be full wardrobe and makeup as John F. Kennedy Jr. and Bessette-Kennedy.

The Cut’s takedown of the images and videos blazed with the headline, “These Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy Costumes Don’t Fit the Bill.” The accompanying essay trashed the looks as appearing to be fast-fashion knockoffs of Bessette-Kennedy’s high designer style. “I feel like I’m looking at Mango and Zara,” The Cut’s fashion news writer Danya Issawi wrote in part. “There is no life, there is no story, there is no familiarity with these pieces.”

Like many others, Issawi criticized the jeans, jacket and shoes Pidgeon was wearing as well as her accompanying Birkin. She also wrote that she reached out to the show for clarification.

Murphy admits he was taken aback by the negative and sometimes what he feels were sometimes unnecessarily mean-spirited comments. “Carolyn Bessette is cleary a religious figure and it’s a religion of her own,” he told me Wednesday during a phone interview from set. “It’s very interesting that people become so inflammatory.”

But here’s the runway rub about the images – Kelly and Pidgeon were not wearing anything they’ll be donning on the show. Murphy insists their outfits were thrown together for lighting and color tests but he released the photos — which he captioned on Instagram as “stills from our LOVE STORY camera test” — because he wanted to get ahead of the paparazzi who he was warned would be flocking to the series’ New York City street sets. Filming began earlier this week and is expected to run through late October or early fall.

“There were comments like, ‘I hate that coat, Carolyn would never have worn that,’” Murphy says. “That was just a coat we threw on for color. People were writing, ‘How dare you use the No. 35 Birkin bag? She wore a 40!’ Yes, we have a 40 but we just threw on a bag from another costume department because that was the sound stage we were on.”

In fact, Murphy says he has enlisted a 10-person “style advisory board” to help reference and source Carolyn’s wardrobe. The names of the board members will be released at a later date when all their contracts are signed.

The production has actually bought some clothing that belonged to Bessette-Kennedy. A replica of the Narciso Rodriguez wedding dress she wore when she and JFK Jr. married in 1996 is being built from scratch.

Murphy lists off some of costume designer Lou Eyrich’s ever-increasing inventory: “We have multiple pairs of Manolo black heels and sandals from 1992 to 1999. We have the Manolo boots she wore in black and brown. We have her Prada tall boots. We have her Prada bags. We have the Birkin No. 40 that we have taken to a specialist to scruff it up so it looks identical to the one she would wear half-open on the subway.”

In September, months before “American Love Story” premieres on FX on Valentine’s Day, Murphy reveals he is going to release 20 short videos showing images of Bessette-Kennedy alongside Pidgeon in full character to illustrate Eyrich’s work and attention to detail.

Sadly, Murphy believes, scrutiny hurled at the show’s Carolyn is eerily similar in to how the media and public treated Bessette-Kennedy. “We’re writing a story about a person – an unknown person – who falls in love with the most famous man in the world and suddenly she can’t leave her house,” Ryan says. “She was constantly being photographed, being called a cunt by the paparazzi.”

Her every move and fashion choice was dissected ad nauseum. “They’re doing to our Carolyn, what they did to the real-life Carolyn,” Murphy says. “It’s not fair.”

Most surprising, Murphy said, was Vogue’s recent interview with Brad Johns, Bessette-Kennedy’s now-retired hairstylist responsible for her signature blonde locks. “Totally wrong, the opposite of what we were going for,” Johns told the magazine. “If you show that on TV and fashion people see it, they are going to think, why the fuck is she all ashed out with her hair only one color?”

Murphy isn’t happy with the fashion magazine. He says Vogue never reached out to him for comment. “The hairstylist couldn’t even tell the difference between real hair and a wig because he insisted it was Sarah’s real hair. It wasn’t. It was a wig,” Murphy says. “Why didn’t Vogue call us and ask, ‘Let’s talk about your decisions. What are your reference photos?’ It’s interesting because Vogue called several times with interest in covering the show, but one of the first things they write is this without even checking with our us?”

A rep for Vogue did not comment for this story.

A day after Murphy and I chat, JFK Jr.’s nephew Jack Schlossberg released a video on Instagram saying that the family is not consulting on the show. This follows a post earlier this month in which he implored Murphy to donate show profits to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum in Boston.

“I am going to donate,” Murphy says. “I also like Jack’s Instagram when he just lip syncs to ’90s girl groups stuff. I want more of that. But I think it would be really hard if your relatives are always in the media.”

Kennedy and Bessette died in a plane crash on July 16, 1999 when JFK Jr. was flying his wife, and her sister, Lauren, from New Jersey to Martha’s Vineyard for a family wedding.

In the end, Murphy says he takes full responsibility for deciding to release the camera test images. “If I ever do something like that again, I have to put a warning label on the top of the caption, explaining to people what the process is,” he says. “But I was trying to protect our actors from being absolutely swarmed by the paparazzi. But that’s on me. I made a mistake, and I’ve learned from it.”

Real Sociedad star in the sights of Lazio

0

A member of the attacking ranks at La Liga outfit Real Sociedad has emerged as something of a dream summer signing for Serie A side Lazio.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, citing Sport Italia journalist Alfredo Pedulla, who point towards Mikel Oyarzabal as the player in question.

Frontman Oyarzabal is for his part fresh off another thoroughly productive campaign with Real Sociedad in 2024/25.

Despite the collective struggles endured by Imanol’s side, the 28-year-old managed to rack up 18 goals and eight assists across all competitions.

Such form culminated in Oyarzabal being afforded a starting role in Spain’s recently-completed Nations League campaign, too.

Safe to say, then, that it would require a massive offer to coax Real Sociedad into the sale of their captain over the months ahead.

As alluded to above, though, this has not stopped one club from sniffing around the signature of the attacker.

As per MD:

‘According to Sport Italia journalist Alfredo Pedulla on his own website, Oyarzabal is Lazio manager Maurizio Sarri’s dream because “he drives him crazy”.

If Sarri had his way, he would in turn push ahead with an imminent swoop for the Spaniard.

Lazio, however, are aware that a deal would prove next to impossible to complete.

Bar Council is wise to the risk of AI misuse | Artificial intelligence (AI)

0

In your report (High court tells UK lawyers to stop misuse of AI after fake case-law citations, 6 June), you quote Dame Victoria Sharp’s call that we, the Bar Council, and our solicitor colleagues at the Law Society address this matter urgently.

We couldn’t agree more. This high court judgment emphasises the dangers of the misuse by lawyers of artificial intelligence, particularly large language models, and in particular its serious implications for the administration of justice and public confidence in the justice system.

The public is entitled to expect from legal professionals the highest standards of integrity and competence in appropriate understanding and use of new technologies, as well as in all other respects.

The Bar Council has already issued guidance on the opportunities and risks surrounding the use of generative AI, which is quoted by the court, and is in the process of setting up a joint working group with the Bar Standards Board to identify how best we can support barristers to uphold those standards with appropriate further training and supervision.

The Oklahoma City Thunder are up, 3-2, against the Indiana Pacers in the 2025 NBA Finals. The Thunder are one win away from their first title in OKC after holding off the Pacers in Game 5 on Monday night. Jalen Williams and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander combined for 71 points in the Game 5 victory.

The series now shifts back to Indianapolis for Game 6 on Thursday as the Pacers try to keep their season alive.

Democrat mom celebrates Supreme Court ruling on Tennessee transgender ban

0

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

While the Supreme Court’s 6-3 decision against youth transgender treatments dismayed many Democrats as a “stunning setback,” one member of the party from deep blue California says she “couldn’t be happier.”

“I am absolutely thrilled,” Erin Friday, parental rights advocate and lifelong Democrat, told “Fox & Friends First” on Thursday.

The Golden State mom and attorney, whose involvement with the transgender issue began when her own daughter briefly questioned her gender, said she felt that her heart had “absolutely burst” and she “broke down in tears” of joy upon hearing the court’s decision.

‘WE WON’: SOCIAL MEDIA ERUPTS OVER SCOTUS RULING DEALING ‘FATAL BLOW’ TO TRANSGENDER SURGERIES ON MINORS

Speaking to Fox News’ Carley Shimkus, she predicted the ruling will have “far-reaching effects” that go beyond gender interventions on kids and explained that some concurring opinions have established “important” legal precedents for other cases dealing with hot-button transgender issues like biological men playing in women’s sports.

“What these justices wrote was so important,” Friday said.

“Justice Alito wrote about sex being biological, and that’s going to be used in these sports cases to get the males out of girls’ sports.”

SOTOMAYOR WARNS SKRMETTI DECISION WILL CAUSE ‘UNTOLD HARM’ TO TRANSGENDER CHILDREN IN SCATHING DISSENT

Erin Friday on Fox & Friends First

California parental rights advocate Erin Friday lauded the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold a Tennessee ban on certain transgender treatments for minors. (Fox & Friends First/Screengrab)

“Justice Thomas wrote extensively about the lack of evidence on these gender interventions on children, what’s happening in Europe, and the harms that are being perpetrated on our children in the United States with this so-called gender ideology, and there’s some language in this opinion that also destroys the notion that there’s even such a thing as gender identity.”

At the same time, Friday said Congress needs to “save” children in blue states still backing such treatments by taking action to codify a ban on such treatments nationwide.

“We need to protect all the children in the United States, not just those who are lucky enough to live in Republican states,” she added.
