Premier League LIVE: Follow live text coverage of AFC Bournemouth v Fulham at the Vitality Stadium – live text and updates

0

Antoine Semenyo’s goal after just 53 seconds was enough for Bournemouth to beat Fulham and claim their first Premier League victory in almost two months.

The Cherries enjoyed a lightning-fast start at Vitality Stadium as Semenyo bent a cool finish past Bernd Leno after snatching possession from Antonee Robinson.

Evanilson should have doubled the hosts’ lead 15 minutes later, but the Brazilian smacked Alex Scott’s cutback off the crossbar from close range.

Fulham lacked a clinical edge, with Rodrigo Muniz, Ryan Sessegnon and Joachim Andersen all missing solid chances to grab a leveller before the break.

Despite charging forward and carving better opportunities in the second half, the visitors could not find a way past Kepa Arrizabalaga, who made two strong saves to deny Alex Iwobi and Sasa Lukic.

Bournemouth felt they should have been awarded a penalty with 10 minutes of normal time remaining when Leno appeared to bring down Evanilson.

However, referee Michael Oliver judged the German keeper to have got a hand to the ball and the video assistant referee backed up the decision.

The victory – Bournemouth’s first in the Premier League since 15 February – moves them level on points with Fulham, although Andoni Iraola’s side leapfrog the Cottagers into eighth thanks to a better goal difference.

Both sides remain in a congested battle for European football next season, with Chelsea and Aston Villa – placed sixth and seventh respectively – six points ahead with six games remaining.

Eighth place is likely to be enough for a Europa Conference League qualification spot, as long as League Cup champions Newcastle and the winners of the FA Cup finish in the top seven.

Parece irremontable.

Karmelo Anthony’s bond reduced, granted house arrest in fatal Frisco stabbing case

0

FRISCO, Texas (CBS News Texas) – The 17-year-old suspect charged in the fatal stabbing of a teen at a Frisco track meet earlier this month has had his bond reduced and will now be on house arrest, following a judge’s ruling Monday.

A Collin County judge has agreed to lower Karmelo Anthony’s bond from $1 million to $250,000. Anthony will also be required to wear an ankle monitor and to stay inside his parents’ home, if they can post bond.

Anthony has been in the Collin County jail since his April 2 arrest for fatally stabbing 17-year-old Austin Metcalf at a Frisco ISD track meet. According to witness statements, Anthony and Metcalf were involved in a verbal dispute, and at one point, Anthony pulled out a knife and stabbed Metcalf once in the chest.

Anthony complied with officers at the scene and was taken into custody. While in the police vehicle, Anthony reportedly asked the officer if Metcalf was going to be okay and if what he did would be considered self-defense.

Since his arrest, Anthony’s family hired defense attorneys Billy Clark and Kim Cole, who promptly requested that Anthony’s bond be reduced.

What happened during the bond reduction hearing

During the hearing on Monday, April 14, Anthony’s defense attorney questioned the teen’s father about his character. His father testified that Anthony was an “A” student, the captain of both his football and track teams.

Anthony’s father also told the court that he’s the sole provider of their family and couldn’t afford the $1 million bond amount.

Prosecutors, who only submitted the police report and no witnesses, also questioned Anthony’s father during the hearing.

Prosecutors asked about a separate “assault” involving Anthony on Feb. 4, which was handled internally by Frisco ISD.

Prosecutors also questioned why Anthony’s family hadn’t used the money donated through a fundraising account for his son’s bond.

“We don’t have access to the money,” Anthony’s father responded.

Defense attorneys argued that the $412,000 raised in the online account “is not a bond fund” and that the family needs it to get by since Anthony’s father is currently on leave from work.

During closing arguments, defense attorneys told the judge maintaining the $1 million bond would be “unusual” considering Anthony’s lack of criminal history. They asked the judge to reduce the bond to $150,000 for Anthony and require him to wear an ankle monitor.

Prosecutors asked that the $1 million bond remain in place, telling the judge that the amount is standard for murder cases in Collin County.

The judge ultimately ruled that the bond be lowered to $250,000, and if Anthony’s family were to bond him out of jail, Anthony would be required to stay at his parents’ house and wear an ankle monitor. The judge said if Anthony violated that rule, he would be returned to jail.

Fulham head to the south coast on Monday to take on fellow European qualification hopefuls Bournemouth, with the hosts looking to build on their huge win last weekend in the EPL.

Below, we’ll outline the best live TV streaming services to use to watch the game as it happens, wherever you are in the world, and how to use a VPN if it’s not available where you are.

The Cottagers leapt above Bournemouth with last Sunday’s surprise 3-2 win at home over champions elect Liverpool, and another victory here would leave Marco Silva’s team just four points behind the Champions League qualification spots.

They take on a Bournemouth side that has seen their chances of playing in Europe wrecked by a disastrous run of six EPL games without a win, with the Cherries having to settle for a 2-2 draw last weekend away against a struggling West Ham.

AFC Bournemouth takes on Fulham on Monday, April 14 at the Vitality Stadium, with kickoff set for 8 p.m. BST local time. That makes it a 3 p.m. ET or 12 p.m. PT start in the US and Canada, and an 5 a.m. AEST kickoff in Australia.

How to watch the Premier League 2024-25 season from anywhere with a VPN

If you’re traveling abroad and want to keep up with all the Premier League action while away from home, a VPN can help enhance your privacy and security when streaming.

It encrypts your traffic and prevents your internet service provider from throttling your speeds, and can also be helpful when connecting to public Wi-Fi networks while traveling, adding an extra layer of protection for your devices and logins. VPNs are legal in many countries, including the US and Canada, and can be used for legitimate purposes such as improving online privacy and security.

However, some streaming services may have policies restricting VPN usage to access region-specific content. If you’re considering a VPN for streaming, check the platform’s terms of service to ensure compliance.

If you choose to use a VPN, follow the provider’s installation instructions, ensuring you’re connected securely and in compliance with applicable laws and service agreements. Some streaming platforms may block access when a VPN is detected, so verifying if your streaming subscription allows VPN usage is crucial.

Quick tips for streaming the Premier League using a VPN

  • With four variables at play — your ISP, browser, video streaming provider and VPN — your experience and success when streaming EPL matches may vary.
  • If you don’t see your desired location as a default option for ExpressVPN, try using the “search for city or country” option.
  • If you’re having trouble getting the game after you’ve turned on your VPN and set it to the correct viewing area, there are two things you can try for a quick fix. First, log into your streaming service subscription account and make sure the address registered for the account is an address in the correct viewing area. If not, you may need to change the physical address on file with your account. Second, some smart TVs — like Roku — don’t have VPN apps you can install directly on the device itself. Instead, you’ll have to install the VPN on your router or the mobile hotspot you’re using (like your phone) so that any device on its Wi-Fi network now appears in the correct viewing location.
  • All of the VPN providers we recommend have helpful instructions on their main site for quickly installing the VPN on your router. In some cases with smart TV services, after you install a cable network’s sports app, you’ll be asked to verify a numeric code or click a link sent to your email address on file for your smart TV. This is where having a VPN on your router will also help, since both devices will appear to be in the correct location.
  • And remember, browsers can often give away a location despite using a VPN, so be sure you’re using a privacy-first browser to log into your services. We normally recommend Brave.

Eastern Michigan hires Maxx Crosby as assistant GM: Raiders star DE joins alma mater in groundbreaking move

0

Eastern Michigan has announced the addition of Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby to their staff as assistant general manager. Crosby will continue to play for the Raiders while in this role.

He is the first NFL player to assume such a role with his alma mater, but this mirrors what NBA stars Steph Curry and Trae Young have done at Davidson and Oklahoma, respectively.

In advance of this announcement, Crosby posted Friday on X that he hoped for top transfer portal edge rushers to consider the Eagles.

Yoo!! This one goes out to the absolute best Edge Rushers in all of College Football! I want you at Eastern Michigan!

The coaching staff has renamed the weakside DE position as The MAXX!
The winner of this new annual award will be coming out for a Raiders Game.

I want the best… pic.twitter.com/43aqsYtiTO

— Maxx Crosby (@CrosbyMaxx) April 11, 2025

Along with this role, the Eagles will change the name of their LEO position to “Maxx” and the player who ends up assuming the starting role there would wear the No. 92, which Crosby wore in his time with the Eagles. Crosby will have a role in recruiting and coaching those players as well.

“There is no place more important to my personal and athletic development than Eastern Michigan University,” Crosby said. “It truly is an honor for me to not only be named the assistant GM of the EMU, but together with my wife Rachel, make another donation aimed at creating opportunities for other athletes to be impacted by the EMU program, community, students and alumni.”

A Lapeer, Michigan, native, Crosby moved to Texas and prepped at Colleyville Heritage before returning home and playing for the Eagles from 2015-18. Eastern Michigan was the only school to offer him a scholarship in the 2015 class.

Crosby then became an All-MAC performer, a fourth round pick of the Raiders in the 2019 NFL Draft and has become a four-time Pro Bowl selection. In March, he signed a three-year $106.5 million contract extension and became the NFL’s highest-paid non-quarterback at the time.

Crosby and his wife Rachel, who played soccer at Eastern Michigan, donated $1 million to the EMU athletics department Oct. 30, 2023.

Crosby now joins coach Chris Creighton‘s staff.

“It’s always special when former players return to be part of our staff, and this is truly a full-circle moment,” Creighton said. “There’s something powerful about staying in one place and building something meaningful over time — Maxx is a shining example. He has already positively impacted our program, and now we’re taking it to another level. His passion for mentoring and developing our players is inspiring. I mean, how many people have a position named after them? That’s got to be a first. Big-time edge rushers will want to come here — not just to play but to build a relationship with Maxx and learn from one of the best. We just finished up a really good spring and are fired up for our future.”

Creighton has been at Eastern Michigan since 2014. Prior to his arrival, the Eagles had been to one bowl game in their history. He has led them to six bowl appearances in his tenure.

Palestinian Columbia Student Protest Leader Arrested by ICE

0

Mohsen K. Mahdawi arrived at the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services office in Colchester, Vermont, on Monday. A Palestinian student at Columbia University, he hoped that, after 10 years in the U.S., he would pass the test to become a naturalized citizen.

Instead, agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested him and began the process to deport him to the occupied West Bank. Mahdawi, a leader of the campus protest movement against Israel’s war on Gaza, became yet another green card holder arrested and facing removal.

“Mohsen Mahdawi was unlawfully detained today for no reason other than his Palestinian identity,” Mahdawi’s attorney Luna Droubi said in a statement to The Intercept. “He came to this country hoping to be free to speak out about the atrocities he has witnessed, only to be punished for such speech.”

Mahdawi’s lawyers filed a habeas corpus petition on Monday morning challenging the legality of his detention, alleging the government was violating his statutory and due process rights by punishing him for speech related to Palestine and Israel. The filing said it appears that Mahdawi was facing deportation under the obscure provision used in other recent cases that gives Secretary of State Marco Rubio the right to unilaterally declare immigrants as threats to American foreign policy.

A federal judge signed a temporary restraining order on Monday to keep Mahdawi from being moved out of Vermont while his case is pending.

Mahdawi was one of the leaders of the pro-Palestine student protest movement until spring 2024, when he said he took a step back from the movement to focus on building bridges with Jewish and Israeli communities on campus.

In December 2023, Mahdawi asked Columbia professor Shai Davidai, a controversial pro-Israel figure at the school, to get coffee. The two met, but Mahdawi later said that Davidai left in the middle of the coffee. Less than two months after the meeting, Davidai posted a video of Mahdawi to Twitter in a thread characterizing him and other protest organizers as antisemitic and pro-Hamas. (Davidai did not immediately respond to a request for comment.)

Since then, Mahdawi became a focus of attacks from a member of Congress and Zionist groups like Canary Mission and Betar.

With Donald Trump’s inauguration, groups like Betar and Canary Mission have been at the center of a push to place scrutiny on foreign students active in campus pro-Palestine movements. At Columbia, one behind-the-scenes push came from a WhatsApp group that included alumni and faculty who organized to get the students deported. Davidai was a member of the group, though there’s no indication he participated in talk of deportation, whether about Mahdawi or other students.

Even before his friend and fellow Columbia activist Mahmoud Khalil was arrested by immigration authorities, Mahdawi asked university administrators to help him find a safe place to live so he would not be taken by ICE agents, according to emails reviewed by The Intercept. The school did nothing in response, Mahdawi said.

After ICE abducted Khalil last month, Mahdawi sheltered in place for more than three weeks for fear of being picked up himself.

Instead of taking him off the street, however, immigration authorities scheduled the citizenship test at the Colchester USCIS office and took Mahdawi into custody when he arrived.

Now, Mahdawi is facing an order to deport him to the occupied West Bank, where escalating attacks from both the Israeli military and Jewish settlers have led to increased casualties among Palestinians.

“It’s kind of a death sentence,” Mahdawi said. “Because my people are being killed unjustly in an indiscriminate way.”

His fears arise from the toll Israel’s attacks and occupation have taken on Mahdawi’s family. Growing up in the West Bank, his community has suffered losses for years. He said he lost his childhood best friend, his uncle, two cousins, several of whom were killed in the Second Intifada, a Palestinian uprising against occupation that lasted from 2000 to 2005.

“I will be either living or imprisoned or killed by the apartheid system.”

More recently, he lost two cousins in the growing violence in the occupied Palestinian territories since the October 7 attacks, Mahdawi said. His aunts and uncles’ homes have been destroyed, and his father’s store was blown up as part of the violence in the West Bank city of Jenin.

Now, he is the ninth Columbia student targeted for deportation as hundreds across the country have had their visas revoked under the Trump administration’s sweeps and abductions of immigrants. Mahdawi is one of the few cases of legal permanent residents arrested, meaning he did not have a student visa revoked but is facing an effort by the government to cancel his green card. Other permanent residents have faced deportation over allegations that they violated immigration law or had their residency revoked over pro-Palestinian views.

“This is the outcome,” Mahdawi said. “I will be either living or imprisoned or killed by the apartheid system.”

Attacks and Government Scrutiny

In December 2023, Mahdawi appeared in a “60 Minutes” segment focused on antisemitism on college campuses.

Mahdawi criticized how Columbia’s then-President Minouche Shafik had responded to the October 7 attacks, saying that she was ignoring the plight of Palestinians. And, a past leader of Columbia’s Palestinian student union, Mahdawi said pro-Israel factions on campus wanted to silence those protesting genocide.

In the wake of the interview, he became the subject of increasing surveillance and attacks from Zionist groups. He said he also started receiving death threats. Canary Mission and StopAntisemitism, two Zionist groups that have become hubs for doxing and bullying of Palestine solidarity activists, created profiles for him. The profiles claimed that Mahdawi — whose activist work centered on finding peaceful resolutions to conflicts between Israelis, American Jews, and Palestinians — was anti-Israel and pro-Hamas.

By late 2024, Mahdawi was visited at his apartment by an FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force official. Mahdawi said he is still unsure of the purpose of the FBI visit. Mahdawi said Columbia refused to provide him with video footage of his apartment complex capturing the visit. (Columbia did not immediately respond to a request for comment.)

Then, in early 2025, Trump formalized his plans to deport pro-Palestine student protesters with an executive order.

Shortly after, Betar, which said it sent a list of students it wanted deported to the White House, posted about Mahdawi. So did the group Documenting Jew Hatred on Campus at ColumbiaU, which is run by a member of the pro-Israel WhatsApp group that worked to deport students. The group posted multiple times about Mahdawi and other organizers, tagging law enforcement agencies.

Shortly afterward, Mahdawi went into hiding. In response to a final email last month pleading with the school to move him to a safe location, a high-ranking official in the Columbia administration wrote, “The University’s outside counsel will be in touch with your counsel.” Mahdawi’s lawyer said Columbia responded and said they could not give him safe campus housing where he would be better insulated from ICE.

Last month, Betar posted about Mahdawi again. The group said Mahdawi was part of a group of students Betar was confident would “shortly be deported.”

Earlier this month, Mahdawi received an email from USCIS notifying him that he was scheduled to conduct an interview to obtain his U.S. citizenship. He said he was expecting the interview to take place in December or January, in line with the expected timeline to move from his green card status through the naturalization process. When he received the email, however, he was worried it might be a trap.

In anticipation of the worst, Mahdawi contacted his representatives in Congress, including Sens. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and Peter Welch, D-Vt., as well as Rep. Becca Balint, D-Vt., to make them aware of his situation and ask them to intervene if possible.

Mahdawi said he spoke personally with Welch, who said his office would be on standby pending what happened with Mahdawi’s case. Offices for Sanders and Balint said they would remain on standby pending news of Mahdawi’s status after the interview. (Welch, Sanders, and Balint did not immediately respond to requests for comment.)

Mahdawi said the government’s efforts to chill speech went beyond issues related to Israel or Palestine.

“That’s why they’re crushing universities now, it’s not only about Palestine,” Mahdawi said.

As for his hopes of becoming a U.S. citizen one day and continuing his master’s degree studies at Columbia’s School of International and Public Affairs, Mahdawi’s future is unclear.

“People ask me why I would want to become a citizen of a country committing genocide,” Mahdawi said. “I have faith in the people living in this country. The government is not the people.”

Update: April 14, 2025, 5:40 p.m. ET
This story has been updated to include a filing made by Mohsen Mahdawi’s legal team challenging his detention and a restraining order from a federal judge prohibiting the government from moving him out of Vermont.

Manchester United: Andre Onana dropped from squad to face Newcastle

0

Former England, Tottenham and Blackburn goalkeeper Paul Robinson on BBC Radio 5 Live

I think the situation has been coming. A lot of United fans have been frustrated with him and there is a time where you do need to take a goalkeeper out of the firing line, because the pressure does become too much.

When you’re in front of the opposition fans you’re reminded of your poor form every time you touch the ball and actually, sometimes, you do need a rest.

It’s good man-management, put your arm around him, say ‘look you’re still my number one goalkeeper but at the moment you’re not playing at the levels I want you at’.

The problem he’s got is if [Altay] Bayindir comes in and plays extremely well then it would be very difficult to leave him out on Thursday, because of how poor Onana’s been playing.

As an outfield player when things aren’t going right you can make up with hard work, running around the pitch, get involved and make tackles, and get yourself into a game, but the problem as a goalkeeper is you can’t go chasing the game.

If you do that then that’s when you’re going to make mistakes.

Man United’s André Onana dropped for Newcastle clash – source

0

André Onana has been left out of Manchester United’s Premier League clash with Newcastle United on Sunday, a source has told ESPN, following heavy criticism of his performance against Lyon.

Onana did not travel to Tyneside with Ruben Amorim’s squad on Saturday and is set to be replaced at St. James’ Park by No. 2 Altay Bayindir.

A source close to Onana has told ESPN that the decision has been taken to allow the 29-year-old to “rest and disconnect.”

Onana, according to the source, has been assured that he has not been permanently replaced as Amorim’s first-choice goalkeeper and that he could return to the team for the Europa League quarterfinal second leg against Lyon at Old Trafford on Thursday. The tie hangs in the balance after a 2-2 draw in France.

Onana has endured a difficult week, first becoming embroiled in a war of words with former Nemanja Matic and then making two mistakes in the game against Lyon to cost United victory.

The Cameroon international was branded as “one of the worst goalkeeper’s in United’s history” by Matic ahead of kick-off during a blistering attack in response to Onana’s claim that United are “way better” than Lyon.

Onana later doubled down, posting on social media that “some can’t say” they have won trophies at Old Trafford — a reference to Matic’s five barren years at the club between 2017 and 2022.

Onana has also been dealing with issues off the field after his wife was the victim of a street robbery in Cheshire in March. A man has been charged in connection with the incident.

Following his two mistakes against Lyon — one coming deep into stoppage time — Amorim backed Onana and said that he was still “really confident” in the former Ajax man.

But the United boss has taken the decision to take Onana out of the firing line and hand Bayindir his Premier League debut more than 18 months after his arrival from Fenerbahce in 2023.
