Netflix’s young Adolescence star branded ‘intimidating’ over new major role with streaming giant

Actor Jacob Elordi has said that Adolescence’s stand-out young star Owen Cooper was “intimidating” on the set of Netflix’s new Wuthering Heights.

The 27-year-old Australian actor will portray Heathcliff in the forthcoming film adaptation of Emily Brontë’s 1847 novel, opposite Owen, who will play a younger version of the character.

Owen Cooper, 15, shot to fame this year in Netflix’s recent drama Adolescence, portraying a teenager accused of the murder of a female classmate, and Elordi admitted his co-star was “brilliant” on the ‘Wuthering Heights’ set.

Speaking to Australian TV’s ’10 News First’ about working with teenager, he said: “He’s a rock star. He’s brilliant and he’s intimidating” and praised Owen for being a “tremendous actor”.

Jacob also told how the youngster wasn’t nervous ahead of filming for the psychological drama movie. He said: “I think the first time I met him I asked, ‘Are you nervous mate,’ and he went, ‘No,’ and I thought, ‘Cool … cool, me neither. But, no, he is a tremendous actor.”

As well as Owen and Jacob, the movie – which will be directed by Emerald Fennell – will also feature Hollywood actress Margot Robbie as leading lady Catherine Earnshaw.

What’s more, Shazad Latif will portray Edgar Linton, Hong Chau is cast as Nelly Dean, and Jacob’s ‘Saltburn’ co-star Alison Oliver will play Isabella Linton.

Margot Robbie will produce through her LuckyChap production company, marking the third collaboration between Fennell and LuckyChap after ‘Saltburn’ and ‘Promising Young Woman’.

Wuthering Heights is due to drop in February 2026, and Emerald Fennell told fans last year that an adaptation of the classic novel would be her third feature film. She wrote on social media: “Be with me always – take any form – drive me mad”, which is a line from the novel.

GOP Sen. Chuck Grassley faces frustrated Iowans at town hall: ‘Are you proud of Trump?’

0

Fort Madison, Iowa
CNN
 —

A room full of frustrated Iowans urged Sen. Chuck Grassley to stand up to President Donald Trump and push back against the executive branch during a Tuesday town hall.

In a tiny southeast Iowa city council chambers that couldn’t fit everyone who turned out, Grassley mostly listened to complaints about Trump and concerns about the sweeping overhaul of the federal government taking place since he returned to office.

“We would like to know what you, as the people, the Congress, who are supposed to rein in this dictator, what are you going to do about it?” one man asked Grassley. “These people have been sentenced to life imprisonment in a foreign country with no due process. Our government cannot do anything?”

The answers Grassley did offer hardly seemed to assuage the angst inside the room.

One person asked the senator point blank: “Are you proud of Trump?”

“There’s no president I’ve agreed with 100% of the time,” he replied. The tight and measured response drew groans from the crowd, where most of the seats were occupied.

Grassley, the chair of the powerful judiciary committee, appeared to side with Trump in the ongoing legal saga over Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, the Maryland man mistakenly deported to El Salvador. After someone else yelled out, “Are you going to bring that guy back from El Salvador?” Grassley said the case was outside the bounds of Congress.

When the same person shouted back, “The Supreme Court said to bring him back,” Grassley echoed the White House’s argument that the US couldn’t force El Salvador to return him.

“The president of that country is not subject to our Supreme Court,” Grassley said.

Asked about Trump’s tariffs, Grassley acknowledged the potential for pain to Iowa farmers, especially grain producers. He touted his bill that would limit tariff powers of presidents going forward.

“When you put something negative, like a tariff, on some country, they seem to retaliate against agriculture,” he said.

The senator promised to stand in the way of cuts to Social Security, but signaled support for work requirements on able-bodied people who receive federal food assistance under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. He also defended the Republican push to extend the Trump-era tax cuts, though he expressed openness to raising the income tax rate for top earners.

Grassley dismissed concerns about the SAVE Act, a bill to crackdown on voter registration that recently passed the House, noting that the legislation had little chance of making it through the Senate, where Republicans don’t have the 60 votes needed to end debate.

Despite the palpable frustration in the room, many attendees also expressed gratitude he was holding the forum while other Iowa Republicans have avoided similar town halls. When some members of the crowd shouted down Grassley or interrupted him speaking, several jumped to defend him, saying, “Let him finish.”

Grassley famously visits all 99 counties in Iowa each year. He started the meeting by acknowledging the increased interest this year in his activity and said his office has received more emails this year than it did in all of 2024. He worked off a list of topics he wanted to first cover, including the Farm Bill and rural health care, telling the audience that he was criticized during a previous town hall for letting questions about Trump dominate the discussion.

The more structured approach, however, didn’t alter the tenor of the event. All but one question asked was critical of the administration.

One person who attended Tuesday to thank Grassley began his remarks by saying, “I’m a rarity here: I’m a happy Republican.”

Scots in Serie A: Expert on McTominay, Gilmour and Ferguson

0

Scott McTominay is the “perfect player” for Napoli boss Antonio Conte, according to Italian football expert Carlo Garganese.

The Scotland international, who joined the Serie A side from Manchester United last summer, has scored seven goals from midfield in an impressive first season in Italy.

“McTominay has been one of the first names on the team sheet all season,” Garganese told BBC Scotland.

“He’s been superb. He’s been the perfect Conte player. He’s all-action, enjoys late runs into the box, has a great shot, great finisher and he’s really good in the air.

“He’s settled in well and loves Italy. He did a great interview last week actually saying how much he loves the place.

“He loves the food. He made a reference to how much he’s fallen in love with eating tomatoes. He said in Scotland that they’re just red water!

“So that was a really nice story and the fans loved it.”

Garganase, who co-hosts the Italian Football Podcast, has also backed McTominay’s international team-mate Billy Gilmour to make a bigger impact next season.

“He’s been unlucky because Conte has used a midfield three of McTominay, Stanislav Lobotka and Frank Anguissa, and once he’s got a first choice XI, he sticks with them,” added Garganase.

“They played basically every game until about a month ago when Anguissa got injured.

“Gilmour then came into the team, he played a few games in a row and he played really well. He was outstanding actually.

“I think he’s won Conte’s trust. He’s still not a first-choice player, but I think he’s fourth in that pecking order.

“And if you look ahead to next season, I think with some of the other players getting older, we can probably look to Gilmour being more of a key player going forward.”

Napoli missed out on the chance to cut the gap on Inter at the top of the league table to just one point when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Lewis Ferguson’s Bologna on Monday.

Ferguson was withdrawn from the starting XI minutes before kick-off but has impressed since returning from a long-term absence through injury.

“[The injury was a] huge shame because he was having an incredible season and he was probably going to get a big move,” Garganase says.

“I know Juventus were interested in him last summer. The big injury meant he didn’t come back until the latter part of 2024, and as a result he’s come back and he’s playing in a deeper position this year.

“Last year he was more of an attacking midfielder, this year he’s been playing in a double pivot in midfield in a 4-2-3-1.

“Maybe that’s a reflection of not quite being physically 100% yet after such a serious injury, but he’s been having a great season.

“It’s been another fairy-tale season for Bologna and Ferguson has played an important role in that again.”

2025 UEFA Champions League goal-scorer props, best bets, odds, free picks for Tuesday, April 15

0

Barcelona and PSG hold comfortable leads in their respective UEFA Champions League quarterfinal matchups heading into Tuesday’s second leg. Barcelona beat Borussia Dortmund 4-0 in the first leg, while PSG secured a 3-1 victory against Aston Villa. Now, Barcelona and PSG must go on the road, but will they deploy a more defensive-minded game plan with such commanding leads? Raphinha opened the scoring in Barcelona’s 4-0 win, recording his 12th goal in the Champions League, the most in the competition. Raphinha is +800 (risk $100 to win $800) at DraftKings Sportsbook to be the first goal-scorer in Barcelona vs. Dortmund.

Tuesday’s matches will be streamed live on Paramount+, which you can now get with a 7-day free trial.

Before locking in any UEFA Champions League picks or goalscorer predictions, you need to see what proven SportsLine soccer expert Brandt Sutton has to say. Sutton has nailed his last seven UCL sides picks, returning +712.5. Here are Sutton’s top UEFA Champions League goal-scorer picks for Tuesday. Don’t forget, you can catch every UEFA Champions League match on Paramount+

Aston Villa vs. PSG, 3 p.m. ET

Pick: Ousmane Dembele (+165)

Ousmane Dembele didn’t score in the first leg, but the Frenchman could find success on Tuesday with Aston Villa needing to press forward to erase a 3-1 deficit. Dembele has racked up 42 goal contributions across 41 games in 2024-25 and has scored seven goals in 11 Champions League fixtures. Dembele found the back of the net in PSG’s 1-0 win at Liverpool in the Round of 16, and his quickness could be troublesome for an Aston Villa side that may be stretched at times. Some betting sites are offering this as low as  +145, but FanDuel Sportsbook is offering the best price at +165.

Borussia Dortmund vs. Barcelona, 3 p.m. ET

Pick: Robert Lewandowski (+100)

Robert Lewandowski scored a brace in Barcelona’s 4-0 victory in the first leg. The veteran striker ranks second in the Champions League with 11 goals in 11 games this season. He’s now scored 105 career goals in this competition, ranking third behind only Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Lewandowski has also had tremendous success against Borussia Dortmund throughout his career, recording 29 goals in 28 games. Caesars Sportsbook is offering this prop at +100.

Pick: Serhou Guirassy (+180)

Serhou Guirassy registered two goals in Dortmund’s 3-2 home defeat against Barcelona in the league phase. Guirassy is Borussia Dortmund’s main attacking threat and has been clinical in front of goal during UCL play. Across 13 matches in this competition, Guirassy has 10 goals and four assists. With Dortmund needing to score early and often, Guirassy will have his opportunities to find the back of the net.

Valverde condiciona a Ancelotti – AS.com

0

Valverde condiciona a Ancelotti

Carlos Alcaraz takes No 1 ranking from Jannik Sinner

0

Carlos Alcaraz has admitted he has felt the weight of expectation on his shoulders since his great rival Jannik Sinner was banned from tennis for three months due to a drug violation and that may explain why he has taken longer than expected to claim top spot in the ATP Race rankings.

Alcaraz’s impressive win at the Monte Carlo Masters saw him climb back to No 2 in the ATP Rankings and also allowed him to leap ahead of Sinner in the points totals for 2025.

While the official ATP Ranking is evaluated over a rolling 52-week period, the ATP Race charts the progress of players in a calendar year and remarkably, Sinner held on to the top spot in that list until last Sunday.

That is despite the fact he has played just one tournament this year, with his Australian Open title in Melbourne giving him all of his points so far this season.

Sinner’s 2,000 points from his win in Melbourne gave him a commanding lead in the ATP Race rankings, which are used to calculate the eight players who qualify for the end-of-season ATP Finals.

Now Alcaraz has finally moved ahead of Sinner after his win in Monte Carlo, as he had 2,410 points for this year after his first win in the Principality.

Alcaraz will have another chance to eat into Sinner’s lead in the ATP Rankings when he plays in front of his home fans at the ATP 500 Barcelona Open this week and he has been honest in admitting the battle with his great rival is on his mind even when the Italian is not allowed to play.

“Since Jannik hasn’t been able to play tournaments, a lot of people have asked me about it and talked about it, about how important a time it is for me to reach No 1 again or to win tournaments,” said Alcaraz.

“Probably, in a way, I’ve been thinking about it too much instead of playing good tennis and enjoying myself on the court and in the matches. After Miami, I realized the path I have to follow and the things I have to do. I don’t have to think about the results or anything else, I just have to have fun.

“That’s the most important thing for me, and not paying attention to expectations or what people say about you. That’s what I’m trying to do, and I think it’s going well for me so far. Today was the best match I’ve played so far in this tournament. I didn’t let him get in, dominate, and come back. I showed my good tennis throughout the match.

“I’m happy to have reached this level, but I think I can do better. At the beginning of the week, with the first clay-court tournament, you focus on adapting to the conditions. The ball comes to you differently, the game on clay is different. Once I’ve reached this level, I have to keep improving and, if possible, raise it.”

Germany’s Alexander Zverev sits in third place in the ATP Race, with most of his ranking points from 2025 coming from his run to the Australian Open final.

Indian Wells Masters champion Jack Draper is in fourth place, with Novak Djokovic in fifth.

Alacarz’s success in knocking Sinner off the top in the ATP Race is unlikely to be replicated by the official ATP Ranking any time soon, with Sinner still more than 2,000 points ahead of his Spanish rival.

As he missed last year’s Rome Masters due to injury, he will have a chase to chase fresh ranking points in his comeback tournament next month, which could allow him to extend his lead at the top.

ATP RACE STANDINGS AFTER THE MONTE CARLO MASTERS

1. Carlos Alcaraz – 2,410
2. Jannik Sinner – 2,000
3. Alexander Zverev – 1,725
4. Jack Draper – 1,640
5. Novak Djokovic – 1,520
6. Alex de Minaur – 1,485
7. Jakub Mensik – 1,330
8. Alejandro Davidovich Fokina – 1,210
9. Felix Auger-Aliassime – 1,205
10. Ben Shelton – 1,170

Zach Cregger’s Weapons Reveals Eerie First Image & Website

0

Somehow, it’s been over two years now since Zach Cregger first announced Weapons, the filmmaker’s hotly anticipated follow-up to surprise AirBnB horror smash Barbarian. Enigmatically described as a “multi and inter-related story horror epic” in the vein of Magnolia, details on Cregger’s latest — whose starry cast includes Josh Brolin, Julia Gardner, Alden Ehrenreich, Benedict Wong, Amy Madigan, and Austin Abrams — have been largely kept under lock and key. But now, with the movie set to release in just four months, Warner Bros. are starting to kick Weapons‘ marketing campaign into gear, beginning with a teaser image and… an in-universe tie-in website. Yes, really!

A digital alarm clock reading 2:17am — as pictured above — may not seem especially significant on first glance. Creepy, sure, but not massively noteworthy. But then if you head over to maybrookmissing.net, where a landing page headline ominously reads ’17 Local Children Leave Home Simultaneously at 2:17AM’, suddenly that time takes on a whole new significance. Resurrecting the all but forgotten fine art of the in-universe movie tie-in website (who else remembers ‘thebentbullet’? ‘whysoserious’? ‘simianflu.com’?), Warner Bros. have teased the plot of Weapons with a full-on local ‘.net’ page detailing how 17 kids inexplicably, of their own volition, have left their homes in the small-town of Maybrook at — you guessed it! — 2:17am. Accompanying the reporting are images of a child dancing in the street in the dead of night and a dankly lit house front, as well as an ingenious link to another story entitled ‘Underground Prison Discovered In Rental Home’. No prizes for guessing what that refers to!

With the likes of Neon and A24 having proven themselves master of the modern horror movie marketing campaign in recent years with their outside-of-the-box efforts to draw viewers into the likes of Longlegs and Cuckoo (Neon), and Heretic and The Substance (A24), Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema’s opening gambit for Weapons is a bold one. It’s also one that promises Cregger, who’s only recently signed on to direct a new take on Resident Evil, is by no means done toying with and subverting his audience’s expectations after the WTFery of Barbarian.

What exactly made all these children disappear? And why specifically at 2:17am in the morning? And how — if at all — do the Weapons and Barbarian universes connect? We guess we’ll find out when Zach Cregger’s newest nightmare hits cinemas on 8 August 2025.

Maxx Crosby named Eastern Michigan football assistant G.M.

0

Maxx Crosby has a new job.

Eastern Michigan has named Crosby Assistant General Manager for its football program. While Crosby will continue his playing career, he now has an official position where he played his college ball.

“There is no place more important to my personal and athletic development than Eastern Michigan University,” Crosby said in a statement released by EMU. “It truly is an honor for me to not only be named the Assistant GM of the EMU, but together with my wife Rachel, make another donation aimed at creating opportunities for other athletes to be impacted by the EMU program, community, students, and alumni.”

According to the program’s release, Crosby will assist in evaluating high school and transfer portal prospects, help manage the team’s NIL/revenue share budget, and assist the program in fundraising, alumni relations, and student-athlete support.

While several former players have taken on G.M. roles at their colleges, Crosby is the first active player to do so.

EMU is also renaming its “LEO” defensive position to “MAXX” and the team’s top edge rusher will wear No. 92, which Crosby wore while with the Eagles.

“It’s always special when former players return to be part of our staff, and this is truly a full-circle moment,” EMU head coach Chris Creighton said in a statement. “There’s something powerful about staying in one place and building something meaningful over time — Maxx is a shining example. He has already positively impacted our program, and now we’re taking it to another level. His passion for mentoring and developing our players is inspiring. I mean, how many people have a position named after them? That’s got to be a first. Big-time edge rushers will want to come here—not just to play but to build a relationship with Maxx and learn from one of the best. We just finished up a really good spring and are fired up for our future.”

Crosby recorded 20.0 career sacks at EMU, setting the program’s single-season sack record with 11 in 2017. He also had 41.0 tackles for loss at the program.

The Raiders selected Crosby in the fourth round of the 2019 draft. He’s registered 59.5 sacks, 105 tackles for loss, and 144 QB hits in his 95 career games for the franchise. Las Vegas signed Crosby to a three-year, $106.5 million extension last month, briefly making him the league’s highest-paid non-quarterback before Myles Garrett’s extension eclipsed the mark.

Raiders Star Maxx Crosby Makes History by Landing College Football Job

0

Maxx Crosby is ready to get to work for his alma mater.

On Monday, it was announced that Crosby would be taking on a new role as assistant general manager of Eastern Michigan University’s college football program.

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the move makes Crosby the first active NFL player to take on such a role.

The NIL era has led to some interesting moves of a similar fashion. Stephen Curry is paired up with his old school, helping out Davidson as an assistant general manager. Andrew Luck took on the GM role at Stanford. Even reporters are getting in on the action, with former ESPN insider Adrian Wojnarowski leaving the newsbreaking business in favor of working at his alma mater St. Bonaventure.

While fundraising and budget management has always been an important part of college football, the NIL era makes a school’s cash on hand an even larger determinant of their potential success, and star-power sure helps fundraising.

With Crosby now on the staff roster at EMU, he’ll look to take the Eagles to new heights.
