RCB Star Tim David Slams 3 Sixes In A Row Against Punjab Kings, Leaves Everyone Stunned – Watch

0

Pressure to score quick runs and clever bowling by Punjab Kings restricted Royal Challengers Bengaluru to a disappointing 95 for nine despite Tim David’s rollicking fifty in their IPL match that was pruned to 14 overs per side due to rain on Friday. The match started at 9.45 pm after a steady drizzle refused to fade away for a good part of the evening, and Kings’ skipper Shreyas Iyer did not hesitate to bowl first. The decision proved right as Punjab bowlers plucked three wickets in the power play segment, which was curtailed to four overs because of the delayed start. Phil Salt started the proceedings with a crisp boundary but perished in the first over itself, trying to hammer Arshdeep Singh (2/23) out of the park and stumper Josh Inglis completed a good catch.

Virat Kohli did not last long either, as Marco Jansen peddled 20 metres back to pull off a terrific catch off Arshdeep.

Pacer Xavier Bartlett joined his teammate with the wicket of Liam Livingstone.

Livingstone tried to carve Bartlett over covers but the ball was a touch outside the off-stump and the batter could not impart timing to his shot, which was pouched by Priyansh Arya at covers.

The Royal Challengers’ power play phase score read a sorry 26 for three.

Yuzvendra Chahal (2/11) made his return to his one-time IPL home Chinnaswamy Stadium memorable with the wicket of Jitesh Sharma.

Amidst the ruins around him, skipper Rajat Patidar played some handsome shots, and none better than a pick-up off his pads off Bartlett that soared over mid-wicket for a six.

But RCB soon received a body blow as Patidar (23, 18b) could not clear Bartlett at sweeper cover off Chahal, who teased the batters with those tossed up, fuller deliveries.

Jansen (2/10), who used short-pitched balls to good effect, had his own moments as he jettisoned Krunal Pandya and Impact Sub Manoj Bhandage as RCB innings unravelled.

It was despite a few customary big blows by David (50 not out, 26 balls) that included three sixes in a row off left-arm spinner Harpreet Brar. David made 32 runs for the final wicket with Josh Hazlewood off 14 balls.

Dead & Company Offer Residency Debut of Kingfish’s “Supplication” and Tease ‘The White Lotus’ Theme at Sphere, Announce Renée Fleming as Friday Special Guest

After a three-week break, Dead & Company took the stage at Las Vegas’ Sphere on Thursday night to set off the second frame of their three-tiered 2025 residency. The band’s first stint of the year brought countless memorable moments–including a continued celebration of the legacy of Phil Lesh–and the kick-off performance for their return forecasted more fan service: through an energetic 19-track performance, the group offered up a bust-out and residency debut of Kingfish’s “Supplication” and, for the careful listeners in the crowd, a tease of the theme from The White Lotus.

Dead & Company stormed the stage with a fiery treatment of “Feel Like a Stranger,” launching a fast-paced and focused first set as they followed with the higher-spirited, but no less potent “Uncle John’s Band.” The sextet of Bob Weir, John Mayer, Mickey Hart, Oteil Burbridge, Jeff Chimenti and Jay Lane wasted little time before merging into “Supplication,” the Weir-led Dead offshoot deep-cut that the ensemble performed only once before in June 2022. The stunning medley continued as the band veered into a repise of “Uncle John’s Band,” then launched the setlist staple sprint through “Help on the Way,” “Slipknot!” and “Franklin’s Tower,” all artfully segued before a first frame closer of “Sugar Magnolia.”

While set one was a strong start, Dead & Company went big with set two, packing 12 fan-favorite cuts into a rapid-fire review of the Dead’s catalog. With the starting gun of Weir’s “Greatest Story Ever Told,” the band bolted through “Bertha,” “China Cat Sunflower,” “I Know You Rider” and an explosive and masterfully precise performance of “Terrapin Station,” then turned on, tuned in and dropped into the psychedelic odyssey of “Drums” and “Space.” In the first movement of this cherished nightly rhythm section spotlight, the backbeat of Burbridge, Hart and Lane saluted Mike White’s prestige drama series with a surprisingly extended snippet of The White Lotus’s haunting theme, by the show’s (now-ex) composer Cristobal Tapia de Veer.

From the far-out “Space,” the group came crashing down to earth again with “Wharf Rat.” For the final passage of the set, they turned to some of the covers most closely associated with the Dead, stringing out into Traffic’s heavy, hazy “Dear Mr. Fantasy,” then slowly building to another energetic peak with The Beatles’ “Hey Jude” and keeping hopes high with Bonne Dobson’s enchanting “Morning Dew.” Following the traditional vintage broadcast snippet that settles attendees in a powerful, retrospective headspace, Dead & Company finally closed out the show with “Sunshine Daydream.”

Dead & Company will return to Sphere tonight, April 18, for the second of three shows this weekend. One of the evening’s oncoming highlights has already been revealed, as percussionist Hart took to his social channels last night to announce that the massively acclaimed classical vocalist Renée Fleming will lend her talents to a very special version of “Drums” and “Space” “I’ve been collaborating with Renée for decades,” Hart wrote on Facebook. “Often with my late beloved brother Zakir Hussain in the mix. Some of the best times of my life.”

Le PSG foudroie Le Havre

0

‘It sounds like a joke!’ – Hansi Flick hits out at La Liga for Barcelona match scheduling between Champions League semi-finals

0

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick took a shot at La Liga for their scheduling of Barça’s league clash against Real Valladolid in between the Champions League semi-finals between the Blaugrana and Inter Milan.

The league confirmed that the Catalans will face Valladolid away from home on Saturday, May 3, at 9pm CET, and Flick called the decision a “joke” in his press conference as it forces the team to travel back to Barcelona overnight and gives them less time to rest and prepare for the second leg of the semi-finals on Tuesday.

Flick explained that he simply hoped the match to be scheduled earlier in the same day, and was clearly irritated since the same thing happened last week when Barça faced Leganés away from home on a Saturday night ahead of a trip to Dortmund for the second leg of their European quarter-final, which also took place on a Tuesday.

“It has happened again and the people in charge of the schedule don’t want to talk about it. It’s not an excuse, but it sounds like a joke to me. Why can’t we play away at 4pm or 6pm, just like we do at home?

“They’ve done it again! It’ll happen again before Milan. We’ll arrive very late, at 4am on Sunday. I’ve never seen this anywhere, only in the Spanish league. Those responsible don’t want to talk about it, but it’s not good.

“I have no words for the person who decides this. They have no idea what it means for the players to rest more. There will be five teams in the Champions League next year. In other countries they take care of teams in the Champions League, but not in Spain.”

Flick has a point, and all you need to do is look to France: PSG, as has been the case for years now, didn’t have to play a weekend match between their two quarter-finals against Aston Villa, and Ligue 1 has them playing on a Friday before the following Tuesday’s first leg, and then on a Saturday before the second leg the following Wednesday.

That is sensible scheduling, putting the players’ health as a priority and giving a club from their own league a better chance to do well in Europe, which would ultimately benefit the league as a whole.

How can La Liga not see that? Well, as we all know, it’s not football, it’s La Liga.

Aaron Rodgers says he’d play for $10 million

0

Aaron Rodgers has broken his silence.

He appeared on Thursday’s edition of The Pat McAfee Show, at the apparent urging of his sister. After complaining (as he usually does) about the “bullshit” out there, he said he has told teams he would play, if he does, for only $10 million.

So where do things stand? “I’m open to anything and attached to nothing,” Rodgers said, repeating what has become his 2025 did-I-do-that catch phrase.

He attributed the lack of a decision to issues in his personal life, involving people in his inner circle. And he acknowledged that retirement is still a possibility.

Rodgers specifically said it’s not accurate that he’s waiting for the Vikings. That theory, in the absence of information of Rodgers, has emerged to explain his failure to sign with the Steelers after last month’s six-hour visit to Pittsburgh.

He also took issue with the reporting about his divorce from the Jets. He said that, while he was meeting with coach Aaron Glenn, Glenn ran out of the room to get G.M. Darren Mougey. He said that, after asking whether Rodgers wants to play football, he was told they’re going in a different direction. Mougey then asked how he wanted the “messaging” to be handled.

Said Rodgers, “I don’t give a shit about the messaging.”

He assumed the meeting (which he said lacked an “ample amount of respect”) would last a couple of hours. It lasted, per Rodgers, 15 minutes. And he referred to the situation in New York as a “debacle.”

“There’s obviously things that need to get fixed over there,” Rodgers said.

One thing that needs to get fixed is Rodgers’s Internet service. It keeps sporadically crapping out. We’ll keep watching and listening for more worth posting.

Aaron Rodgers still undecided on future; retirement possible

0

Four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers is still undecided on his future, and he didn’t rule out the possibility of retiring as he spoke publicly Thursday afternoon for the first time since being released by the New York Jets last month.

In a nearly 45-minute appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Thursday afternoon, the quarterback offered little clarity on his next steps or a timeline for making a decision, but he said he has been transparent with teams pursuing his services.

“I wasn’t stringing anyone along. I wasn’t holding anyone hostage,” Rodgers said from his house in Malibu, California. “I was honest from the jump about where I was at mentally and some of the constraints I have in my life right now that warrant my attention.

“I’m open to anything and attached to nothing. Retirement could still be a possibility, but right now my focus has been — and will continue to be — on my personal life. And that’s what I’ve told the coaches. There’s still conversations that are being had. It’s all been very honest lines of communication.”

He also said next week’s NFL draft will have no impact on his plans.

“I was kind of shocked. Now I’m not shocked because I didn’t think that was a possibility. Listen, of course, if they want to move on, that’s totally fine, but shocked because I just flew across country. You could have told me this on the phone if we weren’t even going to have a conversation.”

Aaron Rodgers, on the Jets telling him they were moving on from him

In refuting reports that he asked for significant money or a multiyear deal, Rodgers said he told teams he would play for $10 million a year.

“I told every single one of the teams I talked to, it ain’t about the money,” he said. “I’ll play for $10M’s. I don’t care. I never once said I need a multiyear deal, $30 [million or] $40 million. That’s absolute bulls—. I said I’ll play for 10. Whatever.”

A free agent for the first time in his career, Rodgers confirmed he had conversations with the Minnesota Vikings, New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers.

At the annual league meeting in Palm Beach, Florida, earlier this month, Steelers owners and team president Art Rooney II said the team keeps “hearing that he’s headed in our direction” and he added that while they wouldn’t wait on Rodgers forever, they could wait “a little while longer.”

Asked by McAfee on Thursday if the Steelers have given him a deadline, Rodgers said he’s operating on his own timeline.

“This entire time I haven’t felt like I owe anyone a decision at any point,” he said. “This is my life now. … I’ve been up-front with them about that. If you need to move on, if you need to do something, by all means.

“… I don’t think it’s fair to the Steelers or anyone while I’m dealing with a lot off the field. I want to keep the lines of communication open. The people who need to know, know.”

The Giants followed Rodgers’ own advice in late March, withdrawing from the race by signing onetime Steelers signal-caller Russell Wilson to a one-year deal to join Jameis Winston in the quarterback room. Rodgers said he enjoyed his conversation with coach Brian Daboll and called him a “beautiful football mind.”

Though Rodgers said he has had “good communication” with the Vikings and coach Kevin O’Connell, he said it wasn’t accurate that he was waiting for Minnesota to offer him a spot after the team’s evaluation of 2024 first-round pick J.J. McCarthy in the offseason program, something former Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger suggested as a possibility in a podcast episode with McAfee.

“To make a commitment to a team is a big thing, whether you’re a first-year player or a 20-year vet. And I had a lot of great conversations with a lot of teams. Not one of those was the Jets because that wasn’t a great conversation. … I had some good conversations, but I’ve been up-front with all of them.”

Aaron Rodgers, on his future

Rodgers also detailed his March 21 visit to Pittsburgh, which he said was intended to be a clandestine operation. To avoid attention, Rodgers said he specifically didn’t fly into the Pittsburgh International Airport, and he rented a Chevy Malibu to drive himself to and from the Steelers’ practice facility.

“I’ve talked to Mike Tomlin,” Rodgers said. “He’s more than I even thought from afar, as far as the type of person he is. I have a lot of respect for what he’s accomplished in the league. [Offensive coordinator] Arthur Smith, talk about a guy that doesn’t need to work, he doesn’t need the work, but he’s a grinder. We’ve had a friendship for a couple years now. I like what he’s all about. And the quarterback coach, Tom Arth, he was in the quarterback room with me in 2006 in Green Bay. … Personally, I wanted to see what it was like there at the facility, meet Omar [Khan] in person, just get a glimpse, a snippet of what life would be like in Pittsburgh.”

Rodgers spent most of the interview reiterating that his focus since January has revolved around off-the-field issues involving his personal life and inner circle, taking his attention away from football. Because of that, he’s not in a rush to make a decision.

“I’m in a different phase of my life,” Rodgers said. “I’m 41 years old. I’m in a serious relationship. I have off-the-field stuff going on that requires my attention. I have personal commitments I made not knowing what my future was going to look like after last year that are important to me. And I have a couple people in my inner, inner circle that are really battling some difficult stuff.

“So, I have a lot of things that are taking my attention, and have beginning in really January, away from football. That’s been where I’ve been focusing most of my attention. To make a commitment to a team is a big thing, whether you’re a first-year player or a 20-year vet. And I had a lot of great conversations with a lot of teams. Not one of those was the Jets because that wasn’t a great conversation. … I had some good conversations, but I’ve been up-front with all of them.”

Rodgers, commenting for the first time on his release from the Jets, took shots at the organization — new coach Aaron Glenn, in particular. Rodgers said he felt disrespected in what he described as a brief, contentious meeting on Feb. 6, when he flew via private jet from California to New Jersey to meet with Glenn and new general manager Darren Mougey to discuss his future.

“I felt like there wasn’t an ample amount of respect in that meeting, but I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised based on some of the things I saw over the two years,” Rodgers said.

Rodgers said he was fired less than one minute into the meeting, adding that Glenn went “a little rogue” and expressed concern that his authority would be undermined by Rodgers.

“I figured that when I flew across country on my own dime that there was going to be a conversation,” Rodgers said. “And the confusing thing to me — and the strange thing — was when I went out there, I meet with the coach, we start talking, he runs out of the room. I’m like, ‘That’s kind of strange.’

“Then he comes back with the GM and I’m like, ‘All right.’ So, we sit down in the office, and I think we’re going to have this long conversation. I’ve flown across the country and, 20 seconds in, he goes … ‘So, do you want to play football?’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, I’m interested.’ And he said, ‘We’re going in a different direction at quarterback.’

“I was kind of shocked. Now I’m not shocked because I didn’t think that was a possibility. Listen, of course, if they want to move on, that’s totally fine, but shocked because I just flew across country. You could have told me this on the phone if we weren’t even going to have a conversation.”

Glenn asked how the quarterback wanted the information released to the media — “the messaging,” Rodgers said. “And I said, verbatim, ‘I don’t give a s— about the messaging.'”

Rodgers then took another jab at Glenn. Asked to explain the decision to release him, Rodgers quoted Glenn as saying, “I don’t want to be up in front of the room saying something and have guys looking back at you” — meaning, Rodgers would be a distraction.

Rodgers took umbrage.

“I said, ‘What does that even mean? Are you assuming that I would be in the back of the room during a team meeting, undermining what you’re saying?’ I said, ‘You don’t know me.’ And he said, ‘You don’t know me.’ And then I said, ‘Exactly, which is why I flew across the country to have a face-to-face meeting with you to talk about my experience with the Jets and to hear your vision for the team.'”

Rodgers said he walked out after 15 minutes. He said he never pleaded for his job, as one media report suggested.

“No, hell no. I don’t want any part of that,” he said. “It was already a debacle in some cases. Listen, that whole situation was crazy.”

Meanwhile, Rodgers said he is prepared to change to a newer version of the Schutt brand helmet if he decides to play in 2025. Last week, the NFL and NFL Players Association banned his previous helmet, the Schutt Air XP Pro Q11 LTD, as part of its annual helmet evaluations. He has changed helmets multiple times since the league and union began banning helmets in 2018.

“I don’t know the inner workings of Schutt,” Rodgers said, “but if I were to play, I’m going to wear Schutt if they’re still going. If they’ve still got a good helmet that passes some sort of test, that’s what I’m going to wear.”

ESPN’s Kevin Seifert contributed to this report.

What is Good Friday? Why it’s celebrated

0

play

Easter weekend is here, and for many Christians, it begins with Good Friday — a day of deep reflection and one of the most solemn observances of the year.

While Easter Sunday is often marked by celebration, Good Friday takes a quieter tone.

Here’s why it is observed and some common traditions across the world.

When is Good Friday 2025? Why is it celebrated?

Good Friday is celebrated on the Friday before Easter and marks the day Jesus was crucified and died. This year, it is observed on April 18, 2025.

Is there a special diet on Good Friday? See fasting rules

Although Lent officially ended with Holy Thursday — also known as Maundy Thursday — many continue to refrain from consuming flesh meat on Good Friday. This includes beef, pork and poultry, allowing fish on Friday. This is done to honor Jesus sacrificing his flesh on Good Friday, according to the Archdiocese of Saint Paul & Minneapolis.

Non-flesh products, like milk, cheese, butter and eggs, are still allowed.

During Good Friday specifically, some Catholics choose to fast: They only eat one full meal and may eat two smaller meals as long as they do not equal the one full meal, according to The Catholic Telegraph. Fasting during Lent represents the fasting Jesus did while in the desert.

Common observances on Good Friday

Good Friday is one of the most solemn days in the Christian calendar, observed by millions worldwide during the Easter season. It commemorates the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ, a central event in Christian belief.

According to the Gospels, Jesus was arrested, tried, and sentenced to death by crucifixion. Christians believe he died on the cross, was buried in a tomb, and rose from the dead three days later on Easter Sunday.

In many cultures, Good Friday is marked by processions that re-enact Jesus’s final journey to the cross, often featuring participants carrying crosses or religious images. Churches may also hold special services, dim the lights, and muffle bells to reflect the day’s solemnity.

One traditional observance is the Stations of the Cross, a devotion that follows 14 moments along Jesus’s path to Calvary, accompanied by prayers and quiet reflection.

When is Easter Sunday 2025?

Easter falls on the first Sunday after the full moon that occurs on or after the spring equinox. This year, the spring equinox fell on Thursday, March 20.

Easter is Sunday, April 20.

What does Easter celebrate?

Easter is one of the most anticipated holidays of the year, marked by a season of religious observances, traditions and celebrations leading up to the day — and observed by millions worldwide.

For Christians, Easter commemorates the resurrection of Jesus Christ, a fundamental belief in Christianity. According to Christian teachings, Jesus was crucified, died and was buried, and on the third day — Easter Sunday — he rose from the dead.

Former New York Yankees outfielder Alex Verdugo’s long-awaited return (or so social media would have you think) to the majors is potentially in sight.

Only weeks after signing a minor-league deal with the Atlanta Braves, Verdugo could join the big-league team within the coming days. Atlanta entered the week at 4-11, desperately needing a reliable outfield bat.

“[All] signs point to Verdugo joining the Braves this week,” Braves reporter Dave O’Brien wrote in The Athletic, “either in Toronto or when they begin a homestand Friday against the Minnesota Twins.”

Verdugo is 4-for-22 with two home runs at Gwinnett. However, the last-place Braves will take anything they can get from a veteran outfielder who has flashed in the past.

Fans and pundits alike were surprised it took Verdugo, who turns 29 next month, so long to sign a contract. He hit .233 with 13 home runs, 61 RBI, and a .647 OPS as the Yankees’ starting left fielder; he also drew seven walks to eight strikeouts over 14 playoff games for the AL champions.

By no means is anyone suggesting that Verdugo had a good season in the Bronx. In fact, most Yankees fans were glad when it became apparent the ex-Boston Red Sox outfielder wouldn’t return for a second campaign in pinstripes.

However, Verdugo checked plenty of boxes as a possible buy-low, sell-high bounce-back candidate. He’s a lefty bat capable of playing all three outfield spots and reaches base at a solid .328 clip; the MLB average last year was .312, down from .320 in 2023.

The key word there is “possible.” If the Braves get the version of Verdugo who hit .228 with a .606 OPS in the second half last year, then he may not stick around Atlanta for long.
