‘Heartstopper’ to Conclude Nick and Charlie’s Story with a Movie Instead of Fourth Season

0

There’s one more chapter to come in Nick and Charlie’s love story.

On Tuesday, April 22, Netflix announced that the final installment of Heartstopper is coming — and this time, Kit Connor and Joe Locke are bringing things to the big screen. Instead of a fourth season, the actors will star in a feature film that will “conclude the story of Nick, Charlie and their friends, with the narrative based around the yet unreleased volume six of Alice Oseman’s graphic novels,” per the streamer.

The film will see new challenges arise for “inseparable” Nick and Charlie as “the reality of a long-distance relationship begins to weigh on them,” per the official synopsis.

With Nick “preparing to leave for university and Charlie finding new independence at school,” while their friends are “also navigating the ups and downs of love and friendship, confronting the bittersweet challenges of growing up and moving on,” the fan-favorite couple starts to wonder, “Can first loves really last forever?”

Oseman said in a press release that she’s “completely overjoyed that we will get to tell the end of the Heartstopper story.”

“I’m so grateful to everyone who has worked hard to make this possible and to the incredible fans of Heartstopper for your patience and passion,” she said. “I cannot wait to bring this story to a magical conclusion.”

Production on the film will begin this summer, and Locke and Connor will be executive producers.

In an Instagram post celebrating the news, Oseman said she’s “deeply relieved and so excited about this new creative venture” as she revealed she’s already written the script and is “hard at work.”

“I know you’ll have a lot of questions, and I’ll be able to talk about it more very soon, but for now let’s CELEBRATE!” she wrote. “Heartstopper is getting its ending!!!!!! 🍂

The movie will pick up after Nick and Charlie took a dramatic step in their relationship in the season 3 finale and slept together, following the storyline of the graphic novel. However, the looming threat of Nick’s journey to university and their relationship becoming long-distance, which was hinted at in the novel, was left out.

Oseman told Tudum that it was an intentional decision as she wanted to end the season “on a high note” — and the cast agreed.

“I think it really works so much better for the TV show,” Connor, 21, said. “It’s such a nice, emotional end to the season. I’m really glad that it ended up that way.”

Rising tennis star Eala stays focused at Madrid Open despite more attention on her

0

MADRID (AP) — Teenage sensation Alexandra Eala is trying to stay grounded despite all the sudden attention she’s attracted following her breakthrough run in Miami.

The 19-year-old Eala, a product of Rafael Nadal’s academy, has climbed to No. 72 in the WTA rankings after reaching the Miami Open semifinals as a wild-card entry last month. She’s the first Filipina to be ranked inside the top 100.

“Now that the dust has settled, I try not to think about Miami so much,” she said. “Of course, it comes to mind when everyone’s asking, but in my mind I have my whole life to look back at those moments and I’ll always have those memories. But the tour goes on, competition goes on, so right now I’m fully focused on Madrid.”

Eala defeated Viktoriya Tomova 6-3, 6-2 in her opening match at the clay-court Madrid Open on Tuesday, setting up a rematch against four-time French Open champion Iga Swiatek, whom she beat in straight sets in the Miami quarterfinals.

“I definitely think that each match is a different story,” Eala said. “Even if it’s against the same player every time — doesn’t matter if I play her at the same time next year in Miami or in Madrid next year, it’s going to be a different story than the last one.”

The left-handed Eala also defeated two other Grand Slam champions — Jelena Ostapenko and Madison Keys — in Miami.

“A lot of external factors have changed (since Miami),” Eala said. “More eyes on me. I guess there’s more exposure. But in the day-to-day and how I feel internally, nothing has changed much because the work ethic always been there. My team has been so down to earth, keeping me grounded and reminding me what’s important to focus on right now.”

In Miami, Eala became the first Filipino player in the Open Era to win four main-draw matches at a WTA 1000 event.

“What was quite a shock to me was that I’ve won against top 10 and top five players. Happy shock, of course,” she said. “But the mindset is still, especially before the matches, is that you can beat them.”

Eala, who lost to Panna Udvardy in the round of 16 at a WTA 125 tournament last week in Oeiras, Portugal, clinched her first WTA 1000 win in Madrid last year.

Move to the Rafa Nadal Academy

Eala moved to Spain at age 13 after an invitation from the Rafa Nadal Academy following one of her victories in a youth tournament.

“I definitely think it was a big milestone when I moved to the Rafa Academy. They’ve been a part of my journey, for sure,” she said. “It was a it was a tough decision to send me to Spain, at such a young age, but I was super excited. I knew it was a big opportunity to get out of the Philippines and develop my tennis.

“They’re very experienced people,” she said. “The coaching staff have a lot of experience, a lot of knowledge. And and they have a structure that enables me to grow and to figure things out by myself and to develop as a player.”

Nadal was among those congratulating Eala after her surprise run in Miami.

‘We’ll be up against a good side’ – Mike Dodds on Wycombe’s clash against Charlton

Wycombe Wanderers head coach Mike Dodds has revealed that his side will be ‘organised, fit and strong’ for when they take on Charlton Athletic on Easter Monday.

The Chairboys currently sit second in the League One table with three games remaining, and now that three consecutive victories will see them automatically promoted back to the Championship after a four-year absence.

However, as well as facing the Addicks on April 21 at Adams Park, who sit fourth, they also take on Leyton Orient and Stockport County in their final two games, all three sides sitting in the play-offs.

Wanderers go into the contest off the back of three consecutive wins after a brilliant 2-0 away triumph at Bolton on Good Friday, Dodds hopes the momentum will continue.

He said: “We have to turn up on Monday against Charlton and produce another performance like that [against Bolton], as we’ll be up against a good side who have a very good coach at this level.

“Charlton are organised, fit and strong, so we know Monday is going to be a test for us.

“I keep telling the guys you’re only as good as your next result, and the work will continue on Saturday for when we play Charlton on Monday.”

On the Addicks, he added: “They are a good team and Nathan Jones is a brilliant manager.

“They are powerful, fit, and he has really got a tune out of them.

“We need to turn up on Monday and get the result.”

Why is the government enforcing REAL ID requirements?

The Department of Homeland Security in May will begin implementing REAL ID requirements for U.S. travelers for the first time, a move that comes as the administration looks to act on some of President Donald Trump’s top policy priorities, including its crackdown on illegal immigration and border security.

The enhanced ID requirements are slated to take effect May 7 and will apply to all U.S. travelers over the age of 18.

The law establishing REAL IDs isn’t new: Congress first passed the REAL ID Act in 2005 in an effort to crack down on identity verification in the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks and set “minimum security standards” for state-issued driver’s licenses and identification cards.

But after 20 years of slow-walking the law’s enforcement, the abrupt timing of the May 7 enforcement is likely to catch many Americans flat-footed.

Just how necessary is obtaining a “REAL ID”? We broke down the changes coming next month and what’s at stake for those who don’t comply. Here’s what you need to know in the final weeks before the new rules take force.

What is a REAL ID and how can I get one?

Beginning May 7, all federal agencies, including DHS and TSA, are required to accept only state-issued driver’s licenses and state identification cards that comply with the updated identity verification standards.

The goal of the REAL ID Act is “to make state driver’s licenses and ID cards (which are identification cards that states issue to non-drivers) more secure, less susceptible to fraud, and more reliable as a form of identification,” Magdalena Krajewska, an associate political science professor, wrote in a 2020 article for the Oxford Academic. (The government has for years tried to stand up the REAL ID requirements, most recently in the months before the COVID-19 pandemic.)

The law seeks to add another layer of security to various forms of identification and to make it harder to counterfeit state IDs.

What do I bring to the DMV?

The short answer: It depends. In order to obtain this enhanced form of ID, individuals must present to their local DMV valid proof of identity; proof of their Social Security number and date of birth, and two additional documents that prove they live in the state. This varies from state to state, though updated guidance can be found here.

The good news is that individuals can obtain one of the enhanced IDs at any time. All 50 states, D.C., and five U.S. territories are now issuing REAL ID-compliant driver’s licenses and ID cards, according to the DHS.

The REAL ID requirements are a “coordinated effort by the federal government to improve the reliability and accuracy of driver’s licenses and identification cards for individuals across the federal government,” Bart Johnson, TSA’s federal security director for upstate New York, told reporters this month.

Who needs to have one?

Every adult in the U.S., if they want to travel by plane or enter government facilities.

“Every air traveler 18 years of age and older must have a REAL ID-compliant ID, which is a state-issued driver’s license, state-issued identification card, or another acceptable form of ID, such as a U.S. passport” before the May 7 deadline, the Transportation Security Administration said in a statement.

Though the other IDs are not rendered obsolete, the TSA said Americans will need to present these new IDs every time they board a commercial flight, even when traveling on a domestic trip. They will also need this updated ID to access federal facilities or be granted access to federal buildings.

Does everyone need to update their ID?

No, not everyone needs to get a new ID. In fact, certain states have required REAL ID verification from residents for years, meaning individuals living in those states and with active forms of identification need not hustle to the local DMV.

Enhanced and “REAL ID-compliant” identification cards are marked with a seal, often a star in the top right-hand corner, according to DHS.

What happens to individuals without a REAL ID?

The abrupt enforcement timeline could catch many Americans flat-footed, especially ahead of what is predicted to be a busy summer travel season.

While legacy IDs are still valid for travel, including driving, airline passengers who present noncompliant forms of ID before boarding, and without another acceptable alternative, such as a passport, “can expect to face delays, additional screening and the possibility of not being permitted into the security checkpoint,” DHS officials said.

Wycombe Wanderers 0-4 Charlton Athletic

0

Wycombe’s top-two hopes suffered a huge blow as they were thrashed at home by fellow League One promotion chasers Charlton Athletic.

The Chairboys began the day in second, one point clear of Wrexham, but are now third with two games remaining.

Charlton kept alive their own chances of joining Birmingham in the top two, but are four points adrift of the Welsh side.

They bossed Wycombe from start to finish and took an 11th-minute lead through Lloyd Jones’ well-taken effort past goalkeeper Will Norris.

It was 2-0 after 24 minutes thanks to a brilliant strike from Luke Berry, who fired home from 15 yards.

Wycombe rarely offered anything in attack as Richard Kone was starved of service and around the hour mark the game was wrapped up.

Norris slipped when receiving a back pass from Xavier Simons and Matt Godden tapped in Charlton’s third in the 58th minute.

Four minutes later, Karoy Anderson scored a header to send the travelling fans into ecstasy.

Charlton finished the game with 10 men after Chuks Aneke was given a straight red in stoppage time following a heated exchange with Luke Leahy.
