The reigning national champion Florida Gators are no longer pursuing USC transfer Desmond Claude, according to Joe Tipton of On3. This comes as a significant surprise — the Gators appeared to be the leaders to land Claude, who averaged 15.8 points and 4.2 assists last season with the Trojans.
North Carolina has been linked to Claude since the portal opened, and now, with the Gators out of the picture, it once again seems like GM Jim Tanner and head coach Hubert Davis have a legitimate shot at landing one of the best transfers still on the board.
If Claude had picked Florida over North Carolina, it obviously wouldn’t have been Tanner or Davis’ fault. You can’t fault anyone for losing out on a guy if the guy goes to the national champs. But with Florida out of the picture, and North Carolina reportedly competing against Kansas and Virginia for Claude’s final year of eligibility… there aren’t many excuses left. You have to get him.
Vriginia basketball is going to be in a rough spot for a few years as it tries to navigate the post-Tony Bennett years, and Kansas is at its lowest point in years. It’s not a good sign if UNC can’t out-recruit those two programs in 2025.
Desmond Claude could reaplace Ian Jackson in Tar Heels backcourt
North Carolina losing guard Ian Jackson to St. John’s was a blow to UNC’s backcourt, but Claude would provide a lot of the spark the team lost with Jackson heading to New York.
Claude is a multi-level scorer. He loves attacking the hoop, and he thrives in the midrange. His 3-point shooting isn’t the strong point of his game, but he can hit a couple if he’s hot. He’s also a high-level passer, and has good enough vision to create shots for teammates, even if some carelessness leads to turnovers a bit too often.
He’s the No. 34-ranked prospect on 24/7’s board, and the No. 5 best transfer still on the board. There aren’t tons of options left for teams to improve significantly in the portal — if the Heels need to overpay for Claude, so be it. This team needs more talent, and Claude fills a need instantly. Go get him.

The Rams have added another player to their receiver group.
The team announced that they have signed Britain Covey as a free agent. It’s a one-year deal for Covey and no other terms of the pact have been announced.
Covey signed with the Eagles as an undrafted free agent in 2022 and played in 17 games as a rookie. He played in 16 games in 2023, but was limited to five appearances in 2024. He also made four postseason appearances in Philly.
Covey had 11 catches for 76 yards in those appearances and also averaged 11.6 yards on punt returns and 21.5 yards on kickoff returns.
The Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski has been declared fit to return from a hamstring injury but is set to start on the bench in their Champions League semi-final second leg at Inter on Tuesday, the Barça manager, Hansi Flick, confirmed.
The 36-year-old Polish international, who has scored 40 goals for Barcelona in all competitions this season, had been sidelined for his club’s last four games. After sustaining the injury during Barça’s 4-3 victory against Celta Vigo on 19 April, he missed the Copa del Rey final victory against Real Madrid and the first leg of the semi against Inter.
“We’ve spoke yesterday and everything is going the right way, and [Lewandowski] is good. Much better than we expected, and he’s ready for the bench. So when we need him, maybe he can come in,” Flick said on Monday.
Barcelona’s hopes of reaching their first Champions League final in a decade are buoyed up by Lewandowski’s return, especially after an exhilarating 3-3 draw in the first leg. However, the team will be without the full-backs Jules Koundé and Alejandro Balde, both sidelined with injuries. Flick did not reveal his plans to replace the injured duo, but he hinted at deploying the centre-backs Ronald Araújo and Eric García or relying on the youngsters Héctor Fort or Gerard Martín in their natural positions.
Koundé and Balde’s absence will pose a big challenge for Flick, with Barcelona struggling to stop Inter’s counterattacks in the first leg, mainly through Denzel Dumfries, who was a constant menace from the right, scoring two goals and claiming an assist.

“As a coaching staff, we analyse everything. We see how a player performed in each situation and maybe we will have to make some changes because we need to defend much better,” Flick said. “Football is really complex, so it has to do with everything. It has to do with the player but we have to find the right idea of how we want to play, the match plan. Of course, the changes have to be good, but also the players have to show on the pitch who they are and what they are made of.”
Barcelona, who are chasing a treble, are unbeaten domestically since late December and are leading La Liga by four points, ahead of Real. After Tuesday’s tie against Inter, they host Real in a crucial La Liga encounter that could effectively decide the title on Sunday.
The Inter manager, Simone Inzaghi, revealed the availability of his injured captain, Lautaro Martínez, and the defender Benjamin Pavard remains uncertain. Martínez was forced off with what appeared to be a muscle injury in Barcelona.
“We will decide on Lautaro and Pavard together with the medical staff and the players, they will have to tell me how they feel,” Inzaghi said. “On Sunday, Pavard participated in the first part of training and felt OK. Lautaro hasn’t trained since Barcelona, so we’ll see how it goes.”
The first 2025 Champions League final participant will be decided on Tuesday night when Inter host Barcelona in the second leg of their semifinal clash.
Despite entering the first leg in poor domestic form, Simone Inzaghi’s Nerazzurri found another gear in Catalonia and raced into an early 2-0 lead. They were eventually pegged back, but the Italians undoubtedly would’ve been content from their evening’s work. A 3-3 draw means it’s all to play for at San Siro this week.
Inzaghi’s men are battling Napoli for the Scudetto, but there was little change at the summit over the weekend as both title hopefuls claimed 1-0 victories.
Barcelona, meanwhile, remain four points clear at the top of La Liga after coming from behind to beat bottom-of-the-table Real Valladolid 2-1 on Saturday. While Inter’s treble hopes have been dashed over the past couple of weeks, Barca’s are still very much alive. The Copa del Rey victors require a big performance in a tough environment on Tuesday to advance, but Hansi Flick’s side are more than capable of blowing their diligent hosts away.
Here is Sports Illustrated’s guide to the second leg of the pair’s Champions League semifinal.
Inter vs. Barcelona Head-to-Head Record (last five games)
Inter’s captain is pushing to be fit for Tuesday’s game / IMAGO / Maciej Rogowski
Lautaro Martinez suffered a hamstring injury last week in Catalonia but has not yet ruled himself out of the second leg. The Inter captain is desperate to play, and his inclusion in Inzaghi’s starting XI will likely be a game-time decision.
If Lautaro isn’t fit, either Mehdi Taremi or Marko Arnautovic will start alongside Marcus Thuram.
Benjamin Pavard is out, however, so we’ll see Yann Bisseck line up on the right side in Inter’s back three.
Hakan Calhanoglu is available after serving a domestic suspension at the weekend.
Inter predicted lineup vs Barcelona (3-5-2): Sommer; Bisseck, Acerbi, Bastoni; Dumfries, Mkhitaryan, Calhanoglu, Barella, Dimarco; Martinez, Thuram
Robert Lewandowski is in Barcelona’s travelling squad / IMAGO / Newspix
Robert Lewandowski is back in the Barcelona squad after a month out through injury, but Alejandro Balde will not travel to Milan due to the hamstring issue that kept him out of the first leg.
Lewandowski should be back in Flick’s starting XI right away, and the manager will likely decide between Gerard Martin and Hector Fort at left-back. Inigo Martinez is another option.
Jules Kounde’s absence is a big blow, with the Frenchman yet to recover from the hamstring injury he sustained last week. Eric Garcia or Ronald Araujo are likely to deputise for the former Sevilla defender at right-back.
Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, Frenkie de Jong and Pau Cubarsi were out of Flick’s XI on Saturday, but the quartet will be back in the starting lineup on Tuesday.
Barcelona predicted lineup vs Inter (4-2-3-1): Szczesny; Garcia, Araujo, Cubarsi, Martinez; De Jong, Pedri; Yamal, Olmo, Raphinha; Lewandowski.
Inter took advantage of a Barcelona team that were unable to perform at their usual intensity out of possession last week. Moreover, their vulnerability from set pieces was ruthlessly exploited by Denzel Dumfries.
Araujo’s likely inclusion will help mitigate Inter’s primary threat, but signs of Barca fatigue are a concern. The hosts, so methodical and precise in possession, will create chances against an aggressive defensive line.
Inter should also be more comfortable defending their box on home soil, but Barca’s overwhelming talent in forward positions could prove to be the difference. They’re blessed with the world’s best. When there’s a Lamine Yamal in your team, there’s always a way.
Prediction: Inter 1-2 Barcelona

Robert Lewandowski has recovered from a hamstring injury and been included in Barcelona’s squad for Tuesday’s Champions League semifinal second leg against Inter Milan.
Lewandowski, 36, has missed Barça’s last four games with the problem, including the Copa del Rey final win against Real Madrid and the first leg against Inter, but returned to training at the weekend.
The Poland striker, who has scored 40 goals this season, has subsequently been included in Barça’s squad for this week’s match at San Siro.
However, left-back Alejandro Balde has not recovered in time and will not feature against Inter.
The defender injured his hamstring on April 12 and there was initially hope he would return for the tie against the Serie A champions, but he will now focus on being ready for Sunday’s LaLiga Clásico against Real Madrid instead.
Speaking later on Tuesday, Barça coach Hansi Flick said Lewandowski would start the game on the bench.
“Everything goes in the right way,” Flick said in a news conference regarding Lewandowski’s fitness. “He’s good, much better than we expected. He’s ready for the bench. When we need him, maybe he can come in.”
Flick also called on his players to go out an enjoy the occasion against Inter, reminding people that no one expected Barça to be in this position at the start of the season, fighting for a treble, and echoing comments from midfielder Dani Olmo that the atmosphere in the dressing room is “like a party.”
“Do you think I have to make pressure on [the players]?” Flick added. “What do you think? When we started the season, no one had any idea what we achieved until now. Now we win two titles already [the Spanish Supercopa and the Copa del Rey].
“Now we have important weeks, important matches to win two more [LaLiga and the Champions League]. It’s a good thing.
“I want my team to appreciate that, enjoy it. To show how good we can play as a team. To make the club and the fans proud. This is what Dani said. This is the way we want to play, to enjoy football.”
Despite that, Barça are aware of the challenge that awaits them against Inter. They trailed 2-0 and 3-2 at home last week and struggled to deal with the threat of Simone Inzaghi’s side from set plays.
“The set pieces we have to defend much better,” Flick said. “But we will change some things … you will see what.”
Barça will also be without their right sided full-back in Italy, with Jules Koundé absent with a hamstring issue picked up in last week’s first leg against Inter.
Last week’s first leg ended in a 3-3 draw at the Olympic Stadium, leaving everything to play for when the teams meet again on Tuesday for a place in the final against either Paris Saint-Germain or Arsenal in Munich on May 31.
There are very few situations in basketball where Nikola Jokic is uncomfortable. But the center of the yearly debate over who the Most Valuable Player in the league is one of them.
His face visibly contorts when the three letters are even uttered near him. He deflects questions about the award as quickly as he redirects one of his quick touch passes on the court. Six of the past seven seasons Jokic has been in the top five of the MVP race. Three of those times he has won it. But this year he has done something completely unexpected.
He actually made a case for himself to win the award.
“I think I’m playing the best basketball of my life. So if that’s enough, it’s enough,” Jokic said March 10, after the Denver Nuggets’ 140-127 win over his main challenger for this year’s award, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Oklahoma City Thunder.
“If not, [Gilgeous-Alexander] deserves it. He’s really amazing.”
Nowhere in that statement did Jokic say he wanted to win what would be his fourth MVP award, which would tie him with LeBron James and Wilt Chamberlain. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has the most with six, and Michael Jordan and Bill Russell have five.
Nowhere did he say that it would mean a lot to him personally.
What Jokic outlined was simple: He has never played as well as he did this year, and if we agree on that premise — that he has been even better this season than his three MVP campaigns — then logically, he should win again.
And by almost every metric, he’s right.
Besides averaging a triple-double and leading the league with 33 of them this season, Jokic ranked among the top three in scoring (29.6), rebounds (12.7), assists (10.2) and steals (1.8), and was among the top 20 players in 3-point percentage (41.7%). No one had ever done that before. He continues to rewrite the record books.
But there’s one very big difference this year than in the previous three years, a hole in what is otherwise an open-and-shut case.
Gilgeous-Alexander had a season for the ages, too, leading the league in scoring (32.7 points per game) and playing All-NBA-caliber defense while guiding the youngest team in the league to 68 wins by the largest average margin of victory (plus-12.9 PPG) in NBA history, surpassing the record set by the 1971-72 Los Angeles Lakers.
It is your classic best-player-on-the-best-team versus best-statistical-season MVP race.
The only time the debate seemed to take center stage or grow even the least bit heated came when the Nuggets and Thunder split back-to-back games March 9 and 10.
Gilgeous-Alexander made his case with 40 points, 8 assists and 3 steals in the nationally televised March 9 win, saying afterward, “I love MVPs, I love All-Stars, I love all the accolades that come with it, but none of it matters if you don’t win.”
Jokic made his case the next night with 35 points, 18 rebounds and 8 assists as the Nuggets won the far less publicized game.
For a day or two, every TV and radio show debated who should win; teammates on both sides campaigned for their guy; and voters were left with a month to sort through everything before casting their votes. Since then, both men have gone out of their way to compliment the other for a hell of a season.
But whatever debate there was has given way to the playoff drama about to transpire.
This second-round matchup between the Thunder and the Nuggets will bring all of it back into focus, starting with Game 1 in Oklahoma City on Monday night. The MVP is expected to be announced during a live TNT broadcast during this round of the playoffs.
This means Gilgeous-Alexander and Jokic (and Giannis Antetokounmpo too) will be asked to join a livestream and await the announcement of the most important individual award in basketball at a time when their entire focus has shifted to team success.
“It is the last thing on both of our minds,” Jokic said Saturday night after the Nuggets finished off the LA Clippers in Game 7 of their hard-fought first-round series.

Nuggets blow out Clippers in Game 7 to advance
Aaron Gordon and Christian Braun combine for 43 to help secure the close-out game at home for Denver.
The votes have long since been cast. And winning the MVP hasn’t correlated with winning an NBA title since Stephen Curry did it in 2015. In fact, none of the previous nine MVP winners has made it past the conference finals.
But when asked about Gilgeous-Alexander as a player, Jokic was far more inclined to talk.
“He’s a very different player,” Jokic said. “He’s playing on so many levels, speed, as a scorer. Everything looks so easy for him. Even when you are like, ‘Oh, that’s a good defense.’ It feels so easy for him and he’s amazing with a change of speed, change of rhythm, ballhandling. He can post up guys, he can go by guys, his shooting at the midrange is unguardable basically. He’s a very special player.”
Gilgeous-Alexander has taken a different approach in how he has handled the attention that comes with an MVP race. He has acknowledged how much it would mean to him, and that he would like to win. But each time he does, he reiterates that the only goal that really matters to him is the Thunder winning.
Which has left the job of campaigning to surrogates. Former Denver coach Michael Malone had historically been Jokic’s hype man. But after he was unceremoniously fired with just three games left in the season, Nuggets swingman Christian Braun took over.
“I think that Nikola had maybe the greatest season ever,” Braun said Saturday night. “I don’t know if you’ll ever see a player do what he did ever again in one singular regular season. They were both great. The Thunder are an amazing team, Shai’s an amazing player. So there isn’t any wrong choice. But to see what Nikola did night in and night out, I don’t know that you’ll ever see that again.”
In December, Thunder center Chet Holmgren tweeted simply, “Lu Dort for DPOY and Shai for MVP or we riot.”
It is an intriguing subplot to this series that both of the front men will do their best to ignore.
Asked whether he thought Jokic cared whether he wins, Braun said, “I know for a fact he doesn’t.”
Thunder coach Mark Daigneault agreed.
“I know Shai a lot better than I know Jokic,” Daigneault said Sunday afternoon. “But I think I know enough to know that neither one of them are going to get distracted by that. Both of them are going to be fully invested in the series. It’s a supplement to the series. But it’s really, it’s not part of the series at all.”
Fans of A Court of Thorns and Roses have been begging for an update on the series as they discover a ‘hidden clue’ while celebrating the series’ tenth anniversary

It’s been ten years since Sarah J Maas’s ever-popular A Court of Thorns and Roses series hit our bookshelves, and fans across the world have been celebrating – while also begging for an update as to when we can expect the next book in the series to appear.
With new special editions of the series being released this year, named the ‘Night Court’ editions, with black and silver foiled covers with black sprayed edges, both old and new fans have been celebrating this bestselling series.
To celebrate these special editions and the tenth anniversary of the first book’s publication, giant book displays have been popping up in bookshops across the US – with fans pointing out that these books are showing one specific chapter.

Meanwhile, the tenth anniversary displays in the UK are also sparking theories, especially one big display in the Liverpool Waterstones, that includes quotes from the books, a mask, some floral displays, and an image of a dagger surrounded by shadows.
After Bloomsbury shared a clip of this on TikTok, fans were quick to comment on the video and share their theories. Many suggested that an announcement could be on the way, and one fan wrote: “Can this please be the announcement that the announcement is coming?”

Others shared their theories on what a new books could be about, with one fan writing: “Without Hope We Can Not Endure- on the floor, closed ivy on the walls, blossoms – looks like hints of Elain!”
Another added: “truth teller on the top left and the flower on the top right of the arch (ACOWAR & ACOFAS cover symbols)…very interesting” suggesting a further link to Elain, and her potential relationship with Azriel.
While a third penned: “ELRIEL IS GETTING CLOSER AND CLOSER GUYS,” which started an argument in the comments, with one reply suggesting: “Gwyn is Azriel’s mate” and another adding: “Eris is Azriel’s mate.”
In a pair of blockbuster deals totaling $350 million, Zach Bryan has re-upped with Warner Records and, separately, either has sold or is in the process of selling his publishing catalog, sources tell Variety.
Bryan’s team had long been negotiating with Warner, but the recorded-music deal, which sources say is for at least two albums, was just concluded Sunday night. While it was clear that Warner was determined to keep him — despite Bryan’s social media post in January about releasing “one final major label album” — the company faced stiff competition from Universal.
Sources say the buyer of the publishing catalog is a new entity, apparently called the Merrit Group, that is helmed by Cameron Strang, who was previously CEO of both Warner Bros. Records and Warner Chappell Music publishing. Further details about the company and the deal are unclear, although Gary Gersh, formerly a top executive at AEG Presents and Geffen and Capitol Records, is said to be a partner. Strang left Warner Chappell in 2015 and the label two years later, and has largely kept a low profile in the music industry since then. He had launched the Americana-leaning indie label New West in 1998 and Southside Independent Publishing in 2004, the latter of which was acquired by Warner Chappell in 2010, shortly before he took over that company.
Reps for Bryan, Strang, Warner and Bryan’s attorney David Jacobs declined or did not respond to Variety’s requests for comment. News of Bryan re-upping with Warner was first reported by the Hollywood Reporter.
Bryan, one of the biggest recording artists in the world, has been Warner Records’ top performer for nearly three years, beginning with the success of his 2022 breakthrough album, “American Heartbreak.” He signed with Warner, in partnership with his own Belting Bronco label, shortly after he was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy in 2021, having released his first two albums independently while he was still in the service. Since then he has risen rapidly to a stadium-level artist, with three multiplatinum studio albums that spawned hit singles like “Something in the Orange,” “Pink Skies” and the Kacey Musgraves duet “I Remember Everything.” He also has released a pair of live albums.
This summer, Bryan will headline AEG’s massive Hyde Park BST festival in London, and just a few weeks later will perform at the 107,000-capacity Michigan Stadium.
Bryan teased an upcoming film in the same post as the “final” major label album via a voice note from actor Matthew McConaughey. In a clip posted to Instagram, Bryan enlists McConaughey to announce the film “Motorbreath,” which he suggests will document Bryan and his friends recording his final album for Warner Records. “This is not a film about a band,” says McConaughey.
“This is a film about a boy from Oklahoma, a boy who joined the Navy with a love of writing. That writing connected with people — a lot of people. This film is about a group of best friends taking a two-week motorcycle ride across America while recording one final major label album. Oh, and the title of the film, you ask? ‘Motorbreath.’”
