PRINCE EDWARD COUNTY, Va. (WSET) — A man is in custody in Prince Edward County after police said he killed his father in Roanoke and later shot at an officer.
Rayjaun Calloway, 24, was apprehended by Virginia State Police on Sunday afternoon, approximately five hours after being spotted by a Farmville police officer near Route 460 and Hixburg Road.
The search for Calloway began after the Roanoke Police Department responded to a shooting in the 900 block of 7th Street NW just before 5 p.m. on Saturday, where they found his father, 55-year-old Israel Calloway, dead.

“This morning at approximately 7:20 a.m. Calloway was spotted by a Farmville Police Officer in the area of Route 460 and Hixburg Road,” said Matthew Demlein, a spokesperson for the Virginia State Police.
Demlein said Calloway shot at the officer multiple times before fleeing on foot, prompting Prince Edward County officials to issue an emergency shelter-in-place order for anyone within a 5-mile radius of the area.
“The officer was not injured, but that led to a shelter in place by Prince Edward County,” Demlein said. “We wanted people to be safe while we were searching for this armed and dangerous suspect.”
Calloway was arrested without further incident near Sulphur Spring Road on Route 460 at about 12:45 p.m. Sunday, with the assistance of multiple agencies. Traffic was temporarily stopped for those traveling West, but has since returned to normal.
