Jurgens is coming off his first Pro Bowl season, a campaign in which he went through great adversity to help bring Philadelphia its second Lombardi Trophy in 2024.
The 25-year-old played through nerve pain that initially held him out of the starting lineup in the NFC Championship Game, but entered and finished the contest once teammate Landon Dickerson was forced out due to injury. Jurgens went on to start in the Eagles’ Super Bowl LIX blowout win over the Kansas City Chiefs, playing 91% of the offensive snaps.
Shortly after Philly’s triumph, Jurgens underwent a back procedure to alleviate the issue and is expected to fully recover from the operation in time for training camp in July, NFL Network Insider Mike Garafolo reported on Feb. 20.
Jurgens, who was selected 51st overall by the Eagles in the 2022 draft, was brought in as the eventual replacement of longtime center Jason Kelce and spent his rookie season as Kelce’s understudy before finding a spot in the starting lineup as a guard in 2023.
Jurgens took over at center following Kelce’s retirement ahead of the 2024 season, and the club is evidently comfortable with the Nebraska product manning that role for the foreseeable future. He joins Saquon Barkley, Lane Johnson and Zack Baun as notable Super Bowl-winning starters who signed extensions this offseason.
